A Gritty Live-Action Adaptation of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin’ Comic in the Works!
When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin comic book started coming out, it was a major hit for IDW Publishing, as well as a major moment in the evolution of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise overall. The comic book was written by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz, and showed us a dark and grim future in which Michelangelo survived as the only remaining turtle. The story was enormously popular and it seems now that a live-action movie adaptation of the comic book is in the works.
The news comes after last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem proved to be a major hit, and while Mutant Mayhem was an animated feature, it doesn’t seem like The Last Ronin will go in that same direction.
Paramount has confirmed that it is working on a live-action adaptation of the popular comic book story, confirming also that they are planning on making it an R-rated movie, which means that it is going to be as dark and as gritty as the original comic book. So far, details on the adaptation are scarce, but we do have some information for you.
It has been confirmed that Tyler Burton Smith, who co-wrote the upcoming R-rated action movie Boy Kills World and who wrote the 2019 iteration of Chucky horror franchise Child’s Play, is working on the screenplay and that Walter Hamada, through his 18hz production, will be producing the film.
