Adam Wingard's Next Project Will be 'Onslaught,' but He Is Expected to Return for Rumored 'Godzilla x Kong 3'

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered on March 29, 2024, as the most recent installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed, as the movie became a box office hit! The movie was directed by Adam Wingard, whom we have recently talked about as the potential director of a live-action ThunderCats movie, which was rumored to be the director’s next project, following Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. But, as the most recent reports confirm, Wingard’s next project won’t be the planned ThunderCats movie, but it won’t be a sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire either.

Namely, as it has been confirmed, Adam Wingard has accepted to direct an action movie, Onslaught, for A24, as the indie production company is moving up in the movie world, becoming a major player in every aspect.

The movie will reunite Wingard and his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett, with whom he is also supposedly working on the ThunderCats movie. Basically, nothing is known about the movie’s plot, but it has been described as a “gonzo action horror thriller that will shoot this fall.” We do know that Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett are going to produce Onslaught under their Ryder Picture Company banner alongside A24, alongside Alexander Black for Lyrical Media. Wingard and his manager Jeremy Platt, are also set to produce, via their new shingle Breakaway Civilization, along with Barrett.

This is all we know about Onslaught, but how does Godzilla x Kong 3 tie into this? Well, there had been rumors that Wingard’s next project would be Godzilla x Kong 3, a movie that has not been greenlit yet, but based on the earnings, it is speculated that a third movie in the trilogy is basically a sure thing, and that we’re just waiting for an official announcement. Wingard is still expected to return for the rumored sequel, but that won’t be his next project, as we know now.

We will definitely be following up on this story, so be sure to keep following Fiction Horizon for all the latest information.
