After 'The Sims', Margot Robbie is Set to Produce the Upcoming 'Monopoly' Movie as Well!

Not so long ago, we reported that a live-action movie based on the popular video game series The Sims is in the work and that Margot Robbie will be producing (and possibly starring?) the movie via her LuckyChap production company, along with her partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara. After starring in Barbie, Robbie has been involved with other game/toy-related productions and news has broken today that another live-action adaptation is in the works, this one based on the popular board game Monopoly.

It has been confirmed that Robbie’s LuckyChap is attached to produce a live-action adaptation of the popular board game, but no specifics have been given as of the time of writing, so we don’t have any precise details to tell you at this point, but the news itself has been confirmed.

It remains to be seen how LuckyChap is going to approach the board game, but the guys at Lionsgate, the studio attached to the project, seem to be quite confident that Robbie’s production company has a clear idea about what they want to do with the movie and how they want to approach it. This is what Adam Fogelcon, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, said about the project:

“I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”

Lionsgate’s enthusiasm is shared by Hasbro, the company that owns Monopoly, as well, as they are looking forward to the project. Zev Foreman, the head of film at Hasbro, said the following about the upcoming project:

“As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”

Finally, we also got an official statement from LuckyChap, the production company behind the project, and as things stand, we are really in for a grand project that will do the popular game justice. Here is the official statement:

“Monopoly is a top property — pun fully intended. Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”
