Can we have deep connections with artificial intelligence? A24 just released a new trailer After Yang and it has already set critics up on their heels. You surely wouldn’t want to miss this one out.

After Yang reimagines a potential future for advanced technology. South Korean Filmmaker Kogonada (Columbus, 2017) prepares the world for possible personal connections with bots and androids. These human-like bots have every characteristic like feelings, emotions, and senses in order to fulfill the definition of being human. Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy) is set to play as the peculiar bot, Yang. He was taken in by Jake (Colin Farrell) as a caretaker as well as an acting sibling for his daughter. Yet after a family event, Yang revealed complications and malfunctions that caused him to shut down. As a result, Jake hopes to repair the bot in order to save his daughter’s beloved brother.

In searching for the true meaning of life the film explores the definition of being human. It explores the possibilities of technology as well as its effects that could influence humans. An existential and philosophical film that could be placed side by side to the likes of Spike Jonze’s Her (2013) is surely a treat that sci-fi fans are not willing to miss out on.
