There are still a lot of unanswered questions when the Chainsaw Man manga and anime are concerned. A lot of them concern the actual balance of power between the Devils, the Fiends, and the Hybrids. From what it seems, there doesn’t seem to be any fixed system, which is why comparing these characters is always difficult and depends on interpretation. Still, that won’t stop us from doing it, as we have decided to compare Aki Hayakawa, one of the protagonists of the series, and a Public Safety Devil Hunter, and Reze, the Bomb Girl, and an antagonist from the first part of the manga. Who would win? Keep reading to find out!

This is one of the closer match-ups in the series, but Aki would probably be able to defeat Reze in a direct conflict. Reze is a powerful Hybrid, that much is known, but Aki’s skills with fighting Devils and Hybrids alike are enormous, and he has a much more diverse skillset than Reze, which is why it is generally thought that he would be able to defeat Reze.

Now that you have the short version of the answer, the rest of the article is going to be divided into three sections, with the first two introducing the characters, their powers, and their abilities. In the end, we’re going to give our final verdict and explanation on why Aki Hayakawa would be able to defeat Reze in Chainsaw Man, but it would definitely not be easy.

Aki Hayakawa and his powers

Aki Hayakawa was a Public Safety Devil Hunter who worked in Makima’s special squad. He possessed contracts with the Curse Devil, the Future Devil, and previously the Fox Devil. He was killed and possessed by the Gun Devil, thus becoming the Gun Fiend.

Aki Hayakawa

Aki is a skilled swordsman, using a sword as his main defense against demons. Aki has received instruction in unarmed combat as a Demon Hunter. He has demonstrated some boxing ability, effortlessly knocking down a boxer who is much stronger than he is. As for his other powers, he has a contract with three Devils, each one of them giving him specific powers.

The Curse Devil is Aki’s most powerful Devil. The nail-shaped sword is a gift from the Curse Devil, but using it drastically shortens Aki’s life. When Aki repeats the word “fire,” the Devil’s hand materializes and strikes the nail’s back end to cause injury. Aki can aim the nail at any portion of his target’s body. Aki calls upon the Curse Devil to grasp his adversary and do tremendous harm, killing them after stabbing them a total of three times with the nail.

Aki managed to negotiate a deal with the Future Devil to use his skills in return for it residing inside his right eye; this happened after he had lost the Fox Devil. Thanks to the Future Devil’s powers, Aki can see several seconds into the future, which she utilizes to anticipate attacks and prepare a defense. Previously, Aki had an agreement with the Fox Devil that allowed him to use his strength in battle in return for feeding it a portion of his body. The head of the Fox Devil would then appear as Aki raised his palm and spoke the word “Kon,” swiftly biting into the target’s body and either devouring them whole or slicing them into pieces.

Reze and her powers

Reze, commonly known as Lady Reze, is a hybrid created when the Bomb Devil and another species united. She is the primary enemy of the Bomb Girl arc and an ally of the Gun Devil. Reze comes across as a sweet, caring girl who, soon after meeting Denji, develops feelings for him. She enjoys his humor and isn’t averse to sharing intimate moments with him. She calls the owner of the cafe she works at stingy for stealing her salary, demonstrating her lack of respect for him. As seen by the merciless and vicious way in which she kills numerous Devil Hunters, she is cunning and cruel in real life. She likes to avoid murdering, though, unless it is absolutely required for her objective, as she does not enjoy doing it.

Reze is physically strong for a young girl; with ease, she can break an assassin’s arm and even strangle him to death. Additionally, with just a knife, Reze could easily remove Denji’s wrist with a single strike. Reze has the ability to transform into the Bomb Girl Hybrid form by pulling the pin imbued in her choker, which she uses to detonate like a grenade.

She is also capable of using the same move, except she blows her head off and leaves a fake version of herself to draw attention away from her adversaries. Before Reze shows himself, the decoy can hold onto her own head and throw it; when it explodes like a bomb, so does the rest of her body. Reze’s strength increases noticeably in this form, and she can now take an extremely powerful kick from the Violence Fiend without getting hurt.

Reze has the ability to generate explosions by igniting the skin on her own arms, which strengthens her physical strikes. Reze can make them explode by detonating them after she simply takes them off. She has the ability to shoot them away from her. Reze also has the odd ability to use her limbs as torpedoes by transforming them into said weapons so that her kicks and punches are more potent.

Reze’s explosive force increases her movement by enabling her to set off explosions around her body as she pleases. She is also capable of flying through the air using constant back-to-back blasts. Reze has the ability to produce an explosive particle and aim it. Reze can regenerate her health by ingesting blood because she is a hybrid. She could instantly grow her amputated limb back after consuming the Typhon Devil’s blood. Reze is a master in unarmed conflict. She was able to disarm and harm an assassin in her human form, utterly outwitting him, encircling him, and strangling him with amazing prowess.

Aki vs. Reze: Who would win?

And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.

This would actually be a very tough duel because Aki has no inherent superhuman powers, whereas Reze is a Hybrid. Hybrids are, like Denji, very powerful and very dangerous, but Aki is one of Public Safety’s most skilled Devil Hunters and has several quite effective contracts that make him a very formidable foe. Not that he wouldn’t have trouble with Reze, on the contrary, but we think that Aki’s combined powers would ultimately be enough to defeat Reze (even if she had help from her buddy, the Typhoon Devil).

The thing with Reze is that although she is quite powerful and can pack a punch, her powers and abilities are not that diverse. She can manage to produce an explosion in so many different ways, but aside from that, she cannot do much. She’s versatile but not diverse. On the other hand, Aki Hayakawa’s skills are far more diverse, which gives him some extra points in any battle.

In hand-to-hand combat, the two are quite similar, but Aki is a better swordsman, and we have already seen that Reze has limited regeneration abilities, unlike some other Hybrids or Devils. On top of that, Aki has the more powerful Curse Devil at his side, and he also has the Future Devil’s powers, which would allow him to predict Reze’s movements and potentially counter them.

This is why, in the end, we think that Aki Hayakawa is the more powerful of the two and that he would win.
