Alien TV Show Will Take Place Much Earlier Than The Events With Elen Ripley
You probably already know that FX is preparing a series for us located in the Alien universe. Some details are known from before, but now, new info has been revealed thanks to the creator of the series Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) and FX boss John Landgraf who shared a few interesting little things about the project. First, if you were hoping for at least some cameo role in which Sigourney Weaver would appear this won’t happen.
Here’s what Landgraf had to say about the show
“Alien takes place before Ripley. It is the first story in the Alien franchise to take place on Earth. It is happening on our planet, towards the end of this century in which we are currently, some 70 years from now. All I can tell you is that Ripley won’t be a part of it, nor will other characters – except Alien himself. But we have prepared some big surprises for the spectators.”
Alien is a very popular franchise, so it is understandable that some fans are skeptical about this approach, especially considering that the franchise has never left the big screens. The series is literally grounded, unlike the terrifying abyss of space, which is another significant deviation from what fans expect.
Landgraf had the following to say:
“I hope that [fans] will have the feeling that the series is true to the franchise they love, but also the brave and original reinvention of that franchise. Setting it up on Earth is really interesting. We need to think ahead about the future of the planet in terms of environment, governance, technology and create and design a version of the planet in the future… Noah wants to do it in a unique and original way.”
FX recently challenged with the following series description:
“Expect a terrifyingly exciting ride that is happening not so far in the future here on Earth.”
The series will present a new corporate entity called Prodigy Corporation, a competitor to the infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation with which all Alien fans are well acquainted. Unlike Weyland-Yutani’s fully robotic synthetics that operate using an artificial intelligence algorithm, Prodigy Corporation’s focus is more on assimilating human consciousness into synthetic bodies. Both companies are competing for the next best revolutionary technology.
Produced by Ridley Scott and James Cameron. The series is expected on small screens in 2023. But it should be noted that the series is still in the early stages of development, so it is too ready for accurate announcements when Xenomorph arrives on FX. Hawley wrote the scripts for the first five episodes. But unfortunately, Alien will have to wait for Hawley to shoot Fargo first until the end, which will be filmed this winter.
