Since Sony decided to adapt the comics, there have been three live-action Spider-Man: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. The first and last both got three movies each, while Andrew Garfield is the only one with two movies. Which is strange, since he was loved by the fans.
Garfield starred in two movies, but fans felt his story was incomplete. While the ending hinted at a brighter future, it didn’t necessarily call for a sequel. However, many believe Garfield has more to offer. His MCU cameo reinforced this, sparking a strong desire for his return in at least one more film.
Now, Garfield himself hasn’t been shy of expressing his desire to return, but he keeps saying that he has some conditions in terms of how well the story is going to be. In light of that, People magazine reveals what it would actually take for Garfield to return.
Not that long ago, if you remember, we reported how Garfield revealed he would come back to the role in Esquire, but that he wants the project to be great and that he would return only if the story was, indeed, amazing:
It was really healing for me. For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into. I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return.

Of course, this is definitely relevant, despite all the conditions, and it confirms that Garfield does have the desire to come back to the role, which is great news for the fans. In light of that, People magazine recently asked the actor the same question, and he elaborated further on that:
I think what it would take is a great idea, a great concept. Something that is surprising and odd and fun, joyful. It has to be worthwhile. I think we had such a great time on that last one that you want to just go, “Okay. Leave it. It was great. It worked. It was a risk and it really, really worked.’

This only confirms Garfield’s earlier words in that aspect, and there is nothing that we can add, save for our hope that this plan will come to life soon and that we will see Andrew Garfield back in the role again, to everyone’s delight.
