Baldur’s Gate 3 is experiencing a surge in popularity this year, surpassing its initial launch success. Michael Douse, Larian’s director of publishing, shared that the game’s average daily peak concurrent players have increased by 3% compared to last year. More impressively, the average daily active users have risen by 20%.

Douse attributes this growth to the game’s modding community, noting that mods are ‘very good’. In October, Larian celebrated 50 million mod downloads since releasing Patch 7, which introduced mod support.

Among these, 10,000 downloads were for a mod that renames the character Withers to ‘Bone Daddy’.

In June, Larian’s head, Swen Vincke, mentioned that official mod support would serve as a ‘handover moment to players‘, though the studio plans to continue providing updates.

Looking ahead, Larian has decided to explore new projects instead of developing Baldur’s Gate 4. The studio is currently working on two games based on its own intellectual properties, which Vincke describes as their ‘best work ever‘.

In a lighthearted note, Douse humorously announced a sale in the Vatican, thanking ‘Mr Pope’ and wishing him enjoyment of the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to captivate players, with its engaging content and active modding community contributing to its sustained success.
