Before Becoming a Star Worth Millions, Colin Farrell Had a Really Tough Start in the Industry

As far as movie stars are concerned, Colin Farrell is definitely one of the most recognizable names today. The Irish actor is currently enjoying success as HBO’s The Penguin, a spin-off series coming from Matt Reeves’ The Batman, is dominating the market, with both fans and critics absolutely loving the series.

But, aside from this, Colin Farrell has had some memorable roles throughout his career, including the recent The Banshees of Inisherin (which earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win), Lanthimos’ The Lobster and The Killing of the Sacred Deer, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, Steve McQueen’s Widows, Joel Schumacher’s intriguing thriller Phone Booth, Tim Burton’s Dumbo, and Martin McDonagh’s dark classics In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths.

And while Colin Farrell is now one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, his beginnings were far from ideal, as the actor himself recounted in a very personal interview for ramp SPACE.

In it, the actor talked about his private life, how he overcame a lot of personal issues (if you remember, he was – for a while – known as one of Hollywood’s biggest “bad boys”), how fatherhood changed him and how he actually started off in the industry.

The start was a rough one, but completely in line with Farrell’s image at the time, and while remembering his beginnings, he is able to make it funny:

Have there been any roles that you wish you hadn’t done?

Oh yeah. I didn’t finish high school; I don’t have a formal education because I wanted to become an actor. There was a phase when I would have done almost anything for money. So I did a bit of modeling on the side.

One time, the guys from the agency said to me, “We need someone.” – “How much is it?”– “Twenty pounds.” – “I’m in. I can fucking do anything just for drinking money.” So I modeled male underwear on national TV, daytime. A thong! I’m not talking boxer shorts . . . a fucking thong!

Is that on YouTube?

Not yet. I don’t think they could find it. If someone finds it, please blackmail me! Because you’ll get whatever I can give you.

How about movie roles? Have you regretted any of them?

There were a few times when I thought (…)

As you can see, Farrell is able to laugh at his own story, which is definitely great, and while we assume that a lot of people would want to see this video, we do think that it is for the best that some things that are hidden remain as such, regardless of how interesting they might seem from a certain perspective.
