Benedict Cumberbatch Takes Back Previous Comments About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, Confirms Strange WILL Appear in the Movie
Benedict Cumberbatch has been keeping Marvel fans on their toes when it comes to his role in Avengers: Doomsday. At first, the actor claimed Doctor Strange wouldn’t be part of the movie, suggesting the character didn’t fit into the story. Now, he’s saying the opposite.
Now, Cumberbatch admitted he had been wrong about his previous statement, confirming, “I got that wrong, I am in the next one.” When pressed further, he remained playful and vague, adding, “Don’t ever believe anything I say.” His comments have left people wondering whether this is just classic Marvel secrecy at play or if his role in the film is still unclear.
Originally, Cumberbatch told Variety that Doctor Strange was sitting this one out, with a bigger focus planned for Avengers: Secret Wars. He hinted that changes in the MCU’s direction, possibly linked to Jonathan Majors’ departure as Kang the Conqueror, had altered plans.
But walking back such a strong statement just a week later makes it seem like either Marvel intervened, or he accidentally revealed something he wasn’t supposed to.
There’s also a chance Doctor Strange only has a small role in Avengers: Doomsday, possibly appearing in a post-credits scene. This would explain why Cumberbatch originally believed he wasn’t involved while still setting up his major role in Secret Wars.
With Avengers: Doomsday set to bring back big names like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell, it’s clear Marvel is going all-in for this chapter of the franchise. Whether Doctor Strange plays a crucial role or just makes a brief appearance remains a mystery.
What do you think? Is Cumberbatch playing with expectations, or is Marvel keeping secrets? Let me know in the comments!
