2023 is slowly approaching us, hopefully, calmer than the previous ones, full of excellent movies, new stories, and brilliant performances. Many cinematographers have already imagined what this year might look like and have shown us their interpretations in several movies filmed even more than a decade ago that we included in this list, the list of the 10 best movies set in 2023.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The final sequel of this extremely successful and beloved Marvel saga is more intense and action-packed than any before. Our very well-known action heroes must assemble once again if they want to undo Thanos’ actions that caused complete chaos around the world.
The devastating ending of Avengers: Infinity War has left the world in ruins and the Avengers have to gather a great group of allies in order to defeat enemies they can’t even imagine, no matter the consequences.
Adam Sandler is Michael Newman, a hardworking family man who must do whatever his boss wants if he wants to get promoted. The problem is that he is spending less time with his family and he is desperate to do something to change that.
His wish is a remote which can control the time he spends with his family and at work. Soon his wish becomes true when he meets an eccentric sales clerk named Morty who sells him this type of remote, one which he can use to completely control his life and everything and everyone in it. At first, it seems a great idea, but very soon things begin to change and start getting out of control.
Don’t Breathe 2 (2021)
This sequel to the excellent first part Don’t Breathe is set in the years following the gruesome events of the deadly home invasion. Norman Nordstrom’s life has been as peaceful as possible since he was hiding in a secluded cabin in the woods for years now.
He is living with a little girl orphaned by a house fire he has taken in and raised, hoping that his life will never be a chaos anymore. But his past will catch up with him when a group of kidnappers shows up at his cabin and kidnaps his little girl, forcing him to leave his home and go after her.
This is an interesting sci-fi fantasy adventure saga that follows the events that happened at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Eternals are ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years but their quiet lifestyle will soon be shattered by recent situations.
They are immortal beings who have helped shape and form Earth’s civilizations and history and now they are facing their greatest fears, Earth’s possible destruction. Hence they will have to get out of their shadows and reunite to help and save humanity from mankind’s greatest enemy, the Deviants.
The Purge: Anarchy (2014)
The Purge is a creepy and disturbing sci-fi thriller horror that shows us the true face of humanity on Purge Night when everyone is allowed to do what he wants. The chaos and violence that occurs in the streets are unimaginable and in this part, we follow three groups of people who are left in the streets during this infamous Purge Night.
This is the night when people get outside, resolute to get revenge on the ones that hurt them, to settle the scores in ways they would otherwise never do and these five people will find themselves in the midst of all this chaos, struggling to make it alive from this night.
Tom Hardy plays the former reporter Eddie Brock whose life is in pieces after a terrible interview with the Life Foundation that ruined his career. Six months later his life will change in ways that he could have never imagined.
He will come across the Life Foundation again, as well as come into contact with an alien entity and become Venom, the most unusual antihero. This symbiotic entity has arrived on Earth to devastate it but it grows on him so he decides to protect it from other alien entities.
X Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
This Brian Singer’s brilliant sequel introduces us to the future where the mutants and the humans who help them are slaughtered by powerful robots. Professor Xavier explains to his group of X-men that Sentinels were created using the DNA of Mystique that was captured in 1973.
Their only chance is to return to 1973 and join Charles Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr in convincing Mystique to give up her intention to assassinate the Sentinels’ creator Dr. Bolivar Trask. But Wolverine is the only one who can travel through time and so he is now on an almost impossible task of saving the mutants and humanity in general.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
This sequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre takes place 50 years after Leatherface’s killing spree in 1973. We follow a group of young men and women who travel to the abandoned Texas town of Harlow to have a look and inspect old properties that will become trendy areas in the future.
They soon discover that the place is not completely abandoned and will be faced with one of the most notorious and terrifying serial killers of all time, Leatherface. This was his safe haven, his carefully sheltered place, and these idealistic youngsters have disrupted his peace and now they have to pay.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
The horrible news is delivered to the world when a group of time travelers arrives from 2051 to inform humanity that 30 years from now they are going to lose a war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for the future is if soldiers and civilians from the present were transported to the future to be part of this great battle.
One of the recruits is a family man and high-school teacher, Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) who teams up with a skilled scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K.Simmons) in order to save his little daughter and the rest of humanity and change the future that awaits everyone.
Gemini Rising (2013)
This sci-fi action thriller set in 2023 tells the story of an ex-homeland security agent and martial arts expert who has to travel to a remote island to help the military with a case connected with extraterrestrial technology and try to figure out and unlock its secrets.
John Savage, Brian Krause, and Lance Henriksen are at the center of this intense thriller with excellent action scenes, an interesting story, and brilliant visuals.
