Most proper anime fans will know about Black Butler. The ongoing manga by Yana Toboso has been around since 2006 and currently has 33 volumes to its name. This dark fantasy series never became a mainstream hit, but it gathered a solid fandom and the series is undoubtedly one of the better-known titles in the world of manga and anime. Several anime adaptations have been produced so far, with the most recent one – Black Butler: Public School Arc – premiering on April 13, 2024. Ahead of the release, a main trailer has been revealed.

The first season of Black Butler aired from October 3, 2008, to March 27, 2009, and consisted of a total of 24 episodes. It was immediately followed by a 12-episode second season, which aired from July 2 to September 17, 2010. Seven OVA episodes were released as part of these two seasons. Several years later, a third season titled Black Butler: Book of Circus was also released, consisting of 10 episodes and running from July 11 to September 12, 2014. A two-episode OVA series, Book of Murder, was also released in 2014, followed by a sequel anime movie, Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic, released in 2017. Finally, the series is once again coming back this year with the Black Butler: Public School Arc anime series.

In case you’re not fully acquainted with the plot of the series, before we reveal the trailer, it would be great if you read through this official synopsis:

Just a stone’s throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria’s faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master’s wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London’s underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human.
