Reports are coming in from Soul Society about a brutal attack on Division 1 which resulted in the death of Lieutenant Sasakibe; at the same time, the ruler of Wandenreich brutally punishes his subordinates after he gets the information he needs. Ichigo is troubled by these events and while he’s patrolling the city, Nel and Pesche arrive from Hueco Mundo and ask for his help.

While the Gotei 13 are holding a funeral for Sasakibe, Ichigo and the gang find out that the same group attacked Hueco Mundo, occupied it and took Tier Harribel, the ruler of Hueco Mundo, hostage. Along with Urahara, but without Ishida, they decide to travel to Hueco Mundo, where they see the Sternritter, led by Quilge Opie, the Sternritter J, treating the Hollows and the Arrancire like prisoners, killing them and torturing them.

The remains of Aizen’s Arrancar army try to fight back, with the Tres Bestias killing the Quincies and attacking Quilge, but without success. As Ichigo reaches him and prepares to fight, Akon gives a report in front of the Captains of the Gotei 13 about the invasion, after which Maruyi Kurotsuchi confirms what everyone had already known, that the Quincies are responsible for what happened.
