The Absolute Batman comic book series by Scott Snyder had been a controversial storyline since its debut. Comic book fans will know that Snyder is a bold writer and his New 52 run gave us some of the best, but also some of the most controversial comic book storylines related to Batman and his world.
He explored the world of the Justice League as well, working on both canon and alternative universe stories, and while Absolute Batman belongs to the latter, the series has nevertheless attracted a lot of attention due to a series of factors. Some of these are related to the story, while others are not.
In this report, though, we are going to talk about the impact of this comic book storyline on the market, as it seems that despite all these controversies (or exactly because of them?!), Absolute Batman is going quite well among the fans, as it is a best-selling title according to the reports we have.
The course of the data we have is Bleeding Cool, whose weekly charts are a solid reference because they incorporate numbers from a large number of stores (a full list can be seen at the bottom of the linked article).
They are not the ultimate source, as they don’t include the whole market, but the numbers they have are certainly referent and that is why we have decided to share them with you:
No. | Title | Publisher | Writer | Artist(s) | Price | Ratio |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Absolute Batman #2 | DC Entertainment | Scott Snyder | Nick Dragotta | 4.99 | 100 |
2 | GI Joe #1 Cover | Image Comics | Joshua Williamson | Jordie Bellaire Tom Reilly | 4.99 | 88.2 |
3 | Amazing Spider-Man #61 | Marvel Comics | Joe Kelly | Ed McGuinness | 4.99 | 40.1 |
4 | Uncanny X-Men #5 | Marvel Comics | Gail Simone | Javier Garron | 4.99 | 38.7 |
5 | Psylocke #1 | Marvel Comics | Alyssa Wong | Vincenzo Carratu | 4.99 | 34.8 |
6 | Transformers #14 | Image Comics | Daniel Warren Johnson | Jason Howard Mike Spicer | 3.99 | 30.6 |
7 | Ultimate X-Men #9 | Marvel Comics | Peach Momoko | Peach Momoko | 4.99 | 26.6 |
8 | Absolute Batman Noir Edition #1 | DC Entertainment | Scott Snyder | Nick Dragotta | 4.99 | 21.3 |
9 | Venom #39 | Marvel Comics | Torunn Gronbekk | Cafu | 3.99 | 16.7 |
10 | Deadpool #8 | Marvel Comics | Cody Ziglar | Roge Antonio | 3.99 | 16.2 |
As you can see, Marvel is dominating the market overall, but the top two positions are taken by GI Joe, an Image Comics publication, and Absolute Batman #2, a DC title. Sside from the Noir Edition of Absolute Batman #1, which is also on the list, all other titles are Marvel’s publications.
This is certainly great news for Snyder and his series, as it seems that he has once again managed to craft a hit series that the fans love, which we can only strongly support!
