'BLUELOCK Movie -EPISODE Nagi-' Releases Three New Character Visuals Ahead of Premiere!

Sports anime and manga series generally do quite well in Japan, although they are not as popular in the West as some other shounen titles (just look at Haikyuu!! or Slam Dunk), but there are some exceptions. One of the most recent ones is the football (soccer)-centered manga series BLUELOCK by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Published since 2018, the manga currently has 28 collected volumes and is still ongoing.

On top of that, a 24-episode anime adaptation was produced in 2022, becoming one of that year’s major and most popular titles. The anime series has been renewed for a second season, but that is not all, as it has been confirmed that the spin-off manga, BLUELOCK Movie -EPISODE Nagi-, will also be adapted in the form of a movie, which is set to come out on April 19, 2024 in Japan.

The movie is projected to be a big hit, and it could be possible that it will build on the recent success of another sport-themed movie, Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump, which is a big hit in Japan at this moment. In order to prepare us for the upcoming premiere, the studio behind the movie has released three new character visuals, which you can check out here:

This release comes just three weeks after the most recent trailer, and with roughly three weeks left until the premiere, we can say that the studio is heating up for next month’s premiere. The movie is going to feature the following voice actors and actresses:

  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Seishiro
  • Yuuma Uchida as Reo
  • Kazuyuki Okitsu as Zantetsu Tsurugi
  • Kazuki Ura as Yoichi Isagi
  • Tasuku Kaito as Meguru Bachira
  • Yuuki Ono as Rensuke Kunigami
  • Soma Saito as Hyoma Chigiri
  • Subaru Kimura as Ryo Nameoka

As for the crew, we can confirm that Shunsuke Ishikawa (Blue Lock co-director) will be directing the film, with Taku Kishimoto (Blue Lock series composer) as screenwriter and scriptwriter, Munemuki Kaneshiro as story supervisor, Yuu Shindou (Fruits Basket 2019) and Sorato Shimizu (Gegege no Kitaro 2018) as character designers, while Jun Murayama (Blue Lock) returns as the music composer. Eight Bit is in charge of the animation production.

In case you want to catch up on the first season ahead of the movie’s premiere, this is the official synopsis of the series:

After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Football Association is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match…and to do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team…and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?

This is all we have for now, but don’t forget to follow us for more updates on the upcoming movie, as well as the second season.
