Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Mickey 17’ Will Premiere in South Korea Before International Release
Deadline reports that Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi film Mickey 17 is gearing up for an exciting debut in South Korea on February 28, ahead of its global release on March 7. This film has been eagerly awaited since Bong’s last project, the award-winning Parasite.
The film stars Robert Pattinson, who plays the lead role of Mickey Barnes, along with Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Mark Ruffalo. This ensemble promises a compelling on-screen experience.
In a special treat for South Korean audiences, Pattinson is set to appear at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on January 20, marking the first major promotional event for the movie, confirmed by Warner Bros. Korea.
Mickey 17 has had a few changes to its release schedule. Initially planned for 2024, the film’s release was moved several times before finally landing on March 7. With a budget of $150 million, this blockbuster adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7 is bound to be a visual spectacle.
The story follows Mickey Barnes, played by Pattinson, who is an Expendable. He is part of a mission to colonize the icy planet Niflheim. When the tasks become too dangerous, Mickey steps in, and if he dies, a new version of him is regenerated, retaining most of his memories.
Bong Joon-ho, known for his work on Snowpiercer and Okja, continues to explore the sci-fi genre with this new venture. His unique storytelling style is sure to bring something fresh and thought-provoking to the big screen.
