As far as movie stars are concerned, Colin Farrell is undoubtedly among the most well-known names in the business nowadays. With HBO’s The Penguin, a spin-off from Matt Reeves’ The Batman, ruling the market right now and receiving rave reviews from reviewers as well as fans, the Irish actor is currently enjoying success.

But, aside from this, Colin Farrell has had some memorable roles throughout his career. Including the recent The Banshees of Inisherin (which earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win), Lanthimos’ The Lobster and The Killing of the Sacred Deer, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and plenty of other hits.

His career was marked by some amazing appearances but also a lot of unrelated incidents, as he was known as one of Hollywood’s biggest “bad boys” for a while. While talking about that, we found an old interview with Farrell that will make you laugh very, very hard.

The video we are about to show you was part of the promotion for Hart’s War, a war film starring Colin Farrell and Bruce Willis, released in 2002. The same year saw the release of Minority Report, a movie in which Farrell starred alongside Tom Cruise. This means that Farrell worked on both movies at the same time. Now that you have the necessary context, here is the video:

In the interview, Farrell was asked whether he thought Tom Cruise was gay or not, and he said: “Gayaaahstraight.” At the time, rumors about Tom Cruise being gay started circulating, and while the actor himself denied those rumors, society was in a different state at the time and not so open about it.

Had Cruise been outed in the early 2000s, his career would probably have taken a different turn.

Of course, Farrell immediately corrected himself and said he did not know why he said that, but he added that “no one has a perfect gaydar, but I have a pretty good one.” And while there is nothing serious to take from this, it shows us two things.

Farrell was, at the time, a true “bad boy,” and he was not afraid to cause a scandal. But, at the same time, that was him. He was authentic, he was funny, very witty, and while there is no excuse for some of the things he did, this video is a perfect example of sincerity in a world where almost everything is fake. And that is why we love him and why we are glad that he managed to get back on track with his life.
