The world of Batman is one of the most fascinating comic book universes of all time. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the universe has expanded since its debut to become one of the most fascinating examples of world-building and character development in the world of mainstream superhero comic books.

This, as you can understand, led to numerous adaptations and derivative works that are a part of the Batman mythos, some of which have become major hits. Sometimes, it’s a film; at other times, it’s a series or a video game, but this report is going to focus on a critically acclaimed audio series whose sequel is coming up soon.

Namely, when released originally, the audio drama Batman Unburied became a major hit and now, we are happy to announce that a second season is on the way, and it will arrive sooner than you think!

Created by superhero veteran David S. Goyer, Batman Unburied was initially released in 2022 on Spotify. The audio drama consisted of a total of 10 episodes and featured Black Panther alumn Winston Duke in the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman. The series was an absolute hit, so we’re not surprised that Goyer began working on a second season.

We can confirm that the second season, titled Batman Unburied: Fallen City, is on its way and that it will appear – yes! – on November 26, 2024, on Spotify, which is just a few days away.

The series will consist of eight episodes, all of which will be released at the same time, unlike the first season, and will dig deeper into the tortured psyche of the titular superhero. The official synopsis for the second season reveals the following, Variety confirms:

As Gotham City is plagued by seismic tremors, Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent launch a social program that rattles the city’s elites yet earns praise from the city’s newest masked figure: the Oracle of Gotham.

But when Harvey goes missing, Batman is forced to descend into the city’s labyrinthian underground, uncovering a horrific conspiracy by a secret society that has ruled Gotham for ages, one that has ties to his parents’ tragic murder. While Two-Face works to puppeteer the strings of law and order, Batman must defend his life — and his city — before everything he knows and loves turns to rubble.

As said, Colman Domingo will be replacing Winston Duke as Batman, and will be joined by Gina Rodriguez (Barbara Gordon) and Jason Isaacs (Alfred Pennyworth), alongside Morena Baccarin (Allie), André Holland (Harvey Dent/Two-Face), Cheech Marin (Jim Gordon), Tahar Rahim (The Patriarch) and Alan Ruck (Coby Williamson).

The audio drama was written and executive produced by Saladin Ahmed, alongside Jess Carson and Meghan Fitzmartin; Alex Kemp will serve as the director. Executive producers include Goyer, Keith Levine, and Gracie Wheelan; producers are Chica Barbosa, Alex Kemp, and Winnie Kemp. Music for the series is composed by Jonathan Snipes.
