Written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, the Kaiju No. 8 manga series has been ongoing since 2020, with 11 volumes as of the time of writing. The series, as a whole, has been extremely popular and is one of the hottest shonen titles currently. Now, as expected from such a major hit series, the manga is going to receive an anime adaptation, whose premiere is scheduled for April 13, 2024, in Japan. The anime will be produced by Production I.G, one of the major anime production houses.

Now, ahead of the premiere, Crunchyroll is bringing some great news for international fans who are looking forward to the series. Namely, not only has Crunchyroll acquired the distribution rights to the series, but the streaming service “will also stream new episodes of the anime series live every week worldwide at the exact same time it broadcasts in Japan, starting Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 a.m. PT.” This will definitely elevate the viewing experience to a completely new level, as every fan of the series will be able to enjoy the series at exactly the same time. After the live premiere, every episode will be available “every Saturday at 8:30 a.m. P.T., following the live broadcast.”

On top of this, more information on the English language dub has been confirmed, with Crunchyroll announcing that Nazeeh Tarsha will provide the voice for Kafka Hibino / Kaiju No. 8, Katelyn Barr for Mina Ashiro, Adam McArthur for Reno Ichikawa, Abigail Blythe for Kikoku Shinomiya, and Landon McDonald for Soshiro Hoshina. The series is officially described as follows:

In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.

As for the series’ production, Shigeyuki Miya will direct the series, while the series composition and scripts will be handled by Ichiro Okouchi, character designs and chief animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio, kaiju design by Mahiro Maeda, art direction by Shinji Kimura, and music composed by Yuta Bandoh. The original Japanese voice cast includes:

  • Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino
  • Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro
  • Wataru Katou as Reno Ichikawa
  • Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya
  • Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina

All of this certainly comes as great news ahead of the April premiere and we’re bound to get some more updates in the upcoming weeks. This is why you should keep following us for more updates on this great upcoming series.
