Daisy Ridley Comments on Her ‘Star Wars’ Return Amidst Delay Rumors
The Star Wars universe is one of the largest fictional universes in existence. George Lucas’ original movie idea has since expanded and become a vast universe with thousands, if not millions, of stories.
Aside from the main movies, series such as The Mandalorian and The Acolyte have attracted a lot of attention, and while not all of them were equally successful, they are a part of modern pop culture.
Not that long ago, after The Acolyte ended, we reported how Disney and Lucasfilm had confirmed their intention to release a total of three Star Wars movies between 2026 and 2027, including a standalone movie focusing on Rey, who was played by Daisy Ridley in the Sequel Trilogy.
And while the movie had supposedly been moving forward, some recent reports claim that the movie is currently being delayed, as Disney and Lucasfilm are postponing the production for some other time, possibly shifting to other projects. In light of that, Daisy Ridley commented on her return and you will find out what she is saying.
As far as the movie is concerned, we knew that it was tentatively titled New Jedi Order movie, and was intended to be a follow-up to the Sequel Trilogy’s Episode IX, with a primary focus on Rey founding a new Jedi Order. Returning to her role as Rey is Daisy Ridley, under the direction of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from a Steven Knight script.
The film was supposedly in pre-production, with no set release window, but recent rumors claim that the companies are delaying the movie and that it will be some time before we actually see Rey back on the screen. On the other hand, Daisy Ridley had a talk with Premiere amidst these rumors, and she revealed some interesting details about her return:
Your return to Star Wars will be very different from when you first joined: at the time of Episode 7’s release, the franchise had been dormant in theaters for decades, whereas New Jedi Order will arrive in a world where Star Wars is absolutely everywhere…
My thoughts on the subject are quite simple: if I didn’t think the story was worth telling, I wouldn’t have come back.
But you had the choice to refuse?
Yes, of course.
There wasn’t a contract forcing you to return?
No, they simply asked if I wanted to do it, based on an idea, without the script being written yet. But if I hadn’t been convinced by the concept, the movie wouldn’t have been made. I took a day to think about it and I told myself that I had had great times making those films.
This new adventure seemed fun to me, so why say no? Additionally, a strange coincidence happened: two people told me in the same week that they’d love to know what Rey is up to now. I had no idea there was such interest! People really love Rey. I think this new movie will be exciting and will move the franchise forward in an interesting way.

As you can see, Ridley claims that she is back solely because Lucasfilm has a good story to tell, and that is definitely exciting to hear. We don’t know what will happen to the movie, but be sure to keep following us for all the updates!
