Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell Are Actually Re-Writing the Live-Action 'One-Punch Man' Movie!

We have recently reported that the One-Punch Man manga will be getting a live-action movie treatment. This is not a particularly new piece of information, as it has been known that a live-action adaptation is in the works for a while now, but we have gotten some crew updates recently, which confirmed that Rick and Morty writer Dan Harmon and his collaborator Heather Anne Campbell have joined the crew of the upcoming movie as writers, but as it turns out, there is a bigger story there.

Namely, as it turned out, Harmon and Campbell were not hired to simply write the movie; they were, in fact, hired to re-write an already-existing screenplay with which Sony is not satisfied. This doesn’t change much in the long run, but it is a vital piece of information that helps us understand how the pre-production phase is evolving.

One-Punch Man is an online manga written and drawn by ONE. It has been published on the author’s personal website since June 3, 2009. The franchise consists of a manga adaptation drawn by Yūsuke Murata, which has been published in Shūeisha’s Tonari no Young Jump web magazine since June 14, 2012 (there are 30 volumes as of the time of writing), and an anime series produced by Madhouse, which has been airing since October 2015, although it is currently on a break.

If you consider all of this, you will definitely understand how and why One-Punch Man is one of the most popular animanga titles of the modern era, as fans liked the quirky humor of the series and the author’s specific approach. One-Punch Man is a gimmick story, that is certain, but there is a certain charm to the whole concept, and that is why people love it so much.

As for the live-action movie, we know that Sony is backing the project, and we can confirm that Harmon and Campbell have been hired to rewrite the screenplay, although no information about the original writers has been revealed as of the time of writing. It is unknown whether Sony is planning to make a series of adaptations or just one movie, but we are probably going to get more updates on the project in the upcoming months. On top of that, it has also been confirmed that Fast and Furious alumni Justin Lin is currently attached to the project as its director, which indicates that we’re in for an action-packed adaptation.

And that is all that we have as of the time of writing. It is not much and it is only a small update when compared to our earlier report, but it is always interesting to receive some precise details.
