In the upcoming DC Universe show, Creature Commandos, actor David Harbour is set to bring a fresh spin to the iconic character of Frankenstein. Harbour, renowned for his role in Stranger Things, shared insights into this unique portrayal during the BoxLunch Holiday Gala.

The actor’s involvement in Creature Commandos marks a new chapter in his career, showcasing his versatility. Harbour’s past performance in Netflix’s Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein differs significantly from his latest role. He explains,

It’s the mind of James Gunn so it is wacky and strange, but also full of a lot of depth and complexity.

This highlights his journey from a comedic portrayal to a character layered with humor and depth.

Harbour’s enthusiasm for the role is evident. He finds the duality of Frankenstein’s monster – an intellectual dream turned monstrous reality – fascinating. This complexity, he believes, paves the way for both comedy and emotional depth.

The show, airing on Max in 2024, is a part of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, wrote all seven episodes. It features an impressive cast, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova, Indira Varma, Zoë Chao, Alan Tudyk, Sean Gunn, and Steve Agee.

Creature Commandos is unique as it’s the first adult animated series in the DCU. The story revolves around Amanda Waller assembling a black ops team of monsters. This concept promises a thrilling and innovative take on the superhero genre.

Harbour, reflecting on his role, joked about the challenges of embodying Frankenstein. “I don’t know how they do it nowadays… I’ve worn prosthetics in movies before, I’m definitely down for it,” he said. His previous experience in prosthetics, like in Hellboy, reassures fans of his commitment to authenticity in his roles.

The actor’s charitable side also shone at the event. Harbour matched BoxLunch’s $100,000 donation to Feeding America, making a significant contribution towards hunger relief.

Harbour’s upcoming portrayal in Creature Commandos is highly anticipated. His take on Frankenstein promises to blend humor with emotional depth, making it a must-watch for DC fans and beyond.
