DC vs. Vampires: World War V, created by Matt Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt, continues to unravel a world devastated by a vampire outbreak. While the story may remind us of DCeased, it stands apart due to Rosenberg and Schmidt’s unique storytelling, which becomes even clearer in this latest issue.

The fragile truce between humans and vampires has crumbled, and both sides are now searching for the child of Mister Miracle and Big Barda. As the sixth issue opens, the vampires and heroes arrive at Mister Miracle’s home simultaneously.

Vampire-Aquaman, sent by Grodd to capture the child, chooses instead to drown both Mister Miracle and the girl. Jayna, the surviving Wonder Twin, attempts to stop him but is thwarted by Mera, who uses her powers to aid Aquaman in his deadly mission.

Back at the heroes’ base, Green Arrow and Lois Lane argue over the attack on Gotham City, which has shattered the truce. In the meantime, Damian Wayne, now a vampire, hints that Alfred might have survived.

The tension rises as a mysterious figure inquires about Mister Miracle’s daughter, learning she is dead. This stranger is revealed to be Metron, setting the stage for what’s to come.

The vampire army, led by Queen Gordon, Grodd, and Aquaman, moves towards the human stronghold. Initially, Supergirl tries to maintain the truce but eventually draws a line, leading to a fierce battle.

The humans are outmatched, and Aquaman asks Queen Gordon if they should unleash the rest of the army. She prefers to watch the humans struggle with false hope.

The situation shifts dramatically when Darkseid makes his entrance. He reveals that his aim was to have Barda and Scott Free’s daughter by his side, a plan thwarted by Aquaman’s actions.

Darkseid’s fury is unleashed when Aquaman defies him, bragging about killing the girl. In response, Darkseid brutally kills Aquaman, leaving him in a gory explosion.

With Aquaman’s death, Darkseid unleashes his Parademons, aiming to obliterate both humans and vampires. This turn of events forces the two opposing sides to reconsider their positions. Darkseid’s involvement reshapes the entire conflict, pushing both humans and vampires into a potential alliance to survive the wrath of Apokolips.

Aquaman’s death is shocking, considering his prominence elsewhere in the DC universe. His end, though sudden, deals a heavy blow to the vampire faction. The stakes are now higher as the battle for Earth’s survival escalates.

This unexpected twist sets World War V apart from other stories like DCeased, offering fresh developments in a dire conflict. It’ll be intriguing to see how Rosenberg and Schmidt evolve this war with Darkseid’s terrifying presence now looming over all.
