Founded way back in 1934, DC Comics became one of the two leading mainstream American comic book publishers in the decades that came. Establishing itself as a major publisher and pioneer of change, especially in the 1980s, DC Comics is now a global brand and one of the most famous synonyms for comic books, especially superhero comic books.
Throughout its rich history, DC Comics has given us a series of interesting characters, some of which have become part of mainstream pop culture, while others are less popular but are still part of the lore, and some of them have even become cult classic characters.
Among these is the Question, a character that debuted in Blue Beetle (vol. 4) #1 back on November 30, 1967. The mantle has been worn by several characters, and while Question never became a mainstream character, he is a cult classic entity, and thanks to a new comic, the character is back in the spotlight!
The comic book we are talking about is The Question: All Along the Watchtower, which was released on November 20 by DC Comics. The story is a very fresh and interesting take on the character, and it seems that DC is finally giving the character that inspired the Watchmen‘s Rorschach the space needed and deserved.
The story is written by Alex Segura and drawn by Cian Tormey, here is what Segura said ahead of the release and what actually inspired the story:
Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie: plot-driven novels that feature colorful characters and situations, often outside of the expected or mundane. But I’d also have to tip my hat to more modern PI novels, like the work of Walter Mosley, Laura Lippman, and George Pelecanos — stories about flawed protagonists in over their heads, trying to do the right thing.

As you can see, the story will be inspired by crime stories, and knowing the nature of Question as a character, as well as the earlier stories featuring the character. We can confirm that Segura actually hit the spot with the general motif of the storyline and we are happy to see it. As for the plot, here is what DC reveals about the comic:
Who watches the Watchtower? In the wake of Absolute Power, the Justice League Unlimited has created a haven for all heroes — but can they keep it secure? Enter Renee Montoya, reeling from an abrupt end to her time in Gotham and looking for a place to hang her hat. But the Trinity didn’t bring her up to the Watchtower to relax — there’s a dark threat bubbling underneath the surface, and only the Question and her ad hoc support team stand a chance of figuring out who the problem is before it’s too late.
This is definitely intriguing, and we cannot wait for more!
