Deathclaws Confirmed for ‘Fallout’ Season 2!

Deathclaws Confirmed for 'Fallout' Season 2!

As gamers will know, Fallout is one of the most popular and best-known video game franchises, whose first installment was released back in 1997 for the PC, but it wasn’t until Fallout 3 was released on platforms that the series exploded. This post-apocalyptic role-playing game turned out to be an ideal material for a series adaptation, which is why Amazon Prime picked up the series, which was – in an almost unprecedented move for the streaming service – released on April 10, 2024 as a batch release; Amazon usually releases series on a weekly basis, but Fallout was a risk they were willing to take and it turned out great!

The series has been praised by both fans and critics, and it is one of the most talked-about shows at the moment, which is why we’re not surprised that Amazon has already renewed it for a second season. In light of that fact, the producers of the series revealed some plans for the upcoming season, and fans of the video game series have a lot to look forward to!

In a talk with The Wrap, series producer Jonathan Nolan discussed the series and the challenges of making it, as well as the possibilities that might come from a second season:

“The challenge, especially with television, is in success, the hope that you get to go again. But I think the reality is your best strategy is to concentrate on making a terrific season and television and if there’s an opportunity to keep going, and there’s sufficient interest, then you get a chance to keep going But I think at the same time, you’d be remiss, almost irresponsible to not have started to talk about where your story could take you. So we have been talking from the beginning about how this would develop and evolve in subsequent seasons, if we should be so lucky.”

But, aside from these general comments, the producers also commented on some precise plans for the second season, which involve the final scene of the first season. Namely, in the final moments of the season, a skeleton of a giant horned creature was shown. Fans of the series will know that it is the skeleton of a Deathclaw, a monster from the video games, and co-showrunner Graham Wagner confirmed that Deathclaws would be an important part of the second season:

We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece. We want to save some something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1. So Season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.

On top of that, co-showrunner Geneve Robertson-Dworet also provided her own insight into plans for the upcoming season:

“There’s all the greatest hit things, like the most obvious things that people who aren’t even gamers know about ‘Fallout,’ like Nuka, deathclaws, whatever. There are these things that are just so prevalent and we were tempted to do all of them in Season 1. But on the other hand, we didn’t want to see the show to seem like it was written by people who just like spent 10 seconds reading the Wikipedia page for ‘Fallout’ and didn’t bother to like bring in some deeper cuts. So it was important to us to also bring deeper cuts into Season 1. Hopefully that won’t piss off fans because we didn’t get to every last thing, but hopefully they will bear with us and pray with us that we get a second season to bring these things to the screen.”
