Demon Slayer is a manga series written and drawn by Koyoharu Gotōge. An anime adaptation premiered on April 6, 2019, with the show’s second season being recently finished. Since the second season is over, here is what we know about Demon Slayers’ season 3.
The third season of Demon Slayer has been confirmed to be in production, but what was a sure thing even before the official confirmation. The second season was finished in February 2022 and right after, a confirmation that a third season is being produced arrived. Demon Slayer was a certain candidate for renewal, and with the info we have, a third season is possible sometime in 2023.
The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the upcoming season 3 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this great anime series.
Demon Slayer Season 3 release date
Demon Slayer currently consists of two anime seasons and an anime movie that serves as a bridge between the two seasons. The first season of the anime aired between April 6, 2019 and September 28, 2019, with a total of 26 episodes. The sequel movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, aired on October 16, 2020.
The second season, which consists of 18 episodes, began airing on October 10, 2021 and is still ongoing. The manga has been completed in the meantime and we know exactly how much of the plot there is to adapt.
Demon Slayer became an instant hit. Building on the success of the manga, the anime series became a global hit and is today praised as one of the most successful anime series of the modern era.
The second season of the anime series will wrap up the Entertainment District Arc, which ended with Chapter 99 of the manga. Since the manga has a total of 205 chapters, this means that more than 100 chapters remain to be adapted. This is good news, right? It is!
As of February 2022, the third season of Demon Slayer has been officially confirmed. Now, this isn’t anything unexpected since the second season was a massive global hit, and knowing how popular it is and how much material there remains to be adapted, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was a certain candidate for renewal.
We didn’t really think that there should have been any doubts about that and we had guessed correctly that the third season would be confirmed when the second one ends.
Taking all of this into account, the third season of Demon Slayer is probably at least a year away and we don’t think it will appear before 2023.
Demon Slayer Season 3 trailer
You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to Demon Slayer season 3, which means that you’ve probably deduced by yourselves that there is no trailer for the third season of Demon Slayer. This is simply because it’s still too early for a third season trailer; the season has only recently entered into production, so we’ll just have to wait for the third season to be confirmed before any expectations of seeing a trailer.
As we have said, Demon Slayer was a sure candidate for renewal, but it’s still too early in the production for a trailer. The manga was a true hit and the anime is practically one of the most popular in the history of the genre, so renewal was more than likely. But, as of now, we still don’t have any official information on the new season’s release, so we’ll have to wait a bit for the trailer. What we do have, though, is an official teaser, which you can check out here:
Along with the teaser, we have also received some official artwork, focusing on the two Hashira who are going to play a major role during the Swordsmith Village Arc. The Hashira are, of course, are Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, and Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira. Here is the visual:
At last, a more concrete teaser trailer was released on April 16, 2022, and you can check it out here:
As you can see, this is not a proper Demon Slayer Season 3 trailer, but rather a longer recap of what we’ve seen so far, along with a brief glimpse into what we can expect from Season 3 of Demon Slayer. We’ve seen the Swordsmith Village and, of course, the trailer focuses on Tokito and Kanroji, the two hashira that are going to be the focus of the season; no information on the villains has been provided, but we’ll definitely see more of them in the proper trailer, once it arrives.
Taking into account everything we’ve said, a proper trailer for Demon Slayer season three is unlikely to appear before the end of 2022, probably early 2023, depending on when the potential third season will air. More information about the show’s third season is expected to be revealed during the upcoming Kimetsu Fest, which is scheduled to take place on April 16 and 17, 2022 in Japan. A full trailer is set to debut during the event, as well as an official release date or release window.
Demon Slayer Season 3 plot
Knowing what we know now, the upcoming third season of Demon Slayer will be adapting the next major arc that follows the Entertainment District Arc. That arc is the Swordsmith Village Arc, which, along with the shorter Hashira Training Arc, leads into the Final Battle Arc. Since we now know what the third season will adapt to, we can introduce the Swordsmith Village arc to you. Here is a brief synopsis of both.
Tanjiro Kamado was sent to the Swordsmith Village to get his new Nichirin Blade. There he meets Mitsuri Kanroji with Genya Shinazugawa. Walking around the village, Tanjiro sees Muichiro Tokito asking for a key to give Kotetsu, the key is the means to launch Yoriichi Zeroroshiki, an ancient doll that kept an unusual Nichirin Blade.
Muichiro, while training with the doll, breaks one of her six arms. Kotetsu, overwhelmed by the thought that he won’t be able to fix the doll and become a craftsman like his father, runs away. Tanjiro finds him and supports him. After, when Kotetsu comes to the broken doll, he asks Tanjiro to become stronger than “that damn indifferent bastard”.
The painful and harsh training with the fighting doll begins. After 7 days, Tanjiro still manages to hit the doll, and he gains the ability to smell the movements of the enemy by smell, the next day he cuts off the head of Yoriichi Zeroshiki. In the doll, the heroes find an ancient nichirin blade, which Hotaru Haganezuka takes to be repaired and polished.
The village is attacked by the fifth and fourth upper moons. At the moment of the conversation, which later influenced Muichiro Tokito, with Tanjiro Kamado, Hantengu comes to them and a fight begins. In the course of this battle, Genya Shinazugawa and Nezuko Kamado are connected. Muichiro is thrown away from the battlefield and he encounters Gyokko, who is about to kill Haganezuku, interrupting his polishing process before doing so.
Muichiro, overcoming himself, awakens a mist-like mark and defeats Gyokko. Meanwhile, Mitsuri Kanroji joins the fight against Hantengu and also receives a mark that looks like a heart. Tanjiro chases after the real body of the fourth moon and uses his new, not yet polished blade. The fifth and fourth Kizuki are defeated, and Nezuko Kamado overcomes her demonic powers and is no longer harmed by the sun’s rays.
Demon Slayer Season 3 cast
Demon Slayer is a show whose main cast won’t be changing much until the final arc. Some new characters will be introduced, and a lot of antagonists are going to disappear after their demise, but the main cast will remain – for the most part – unchanged until the very end.
This is why we think that the main voice cast, since that is an unwritten rule in modern-day anime adaptations, will return for the third season, but also for all potential future seasons.
We don’t have confirmation of that so we’ll have to wait a bit for it to be official, but we assume that most of the names in our table will return in future seasons of Demon Slayer:
|Character||Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyū)|
|Tanjirō Kamado||Natsuki Hanae|
|Nezuko Kamado||Akari Kitō|
|Sakonji Urokodaki||Hōchu Ōtsuka|
|Giyū Tomioka||Takahiro Sakurai|
|Zenitsu Agatsuma||Hiro Shimono|
|Inosuke Hashibira||Yoshitsugu Matsuoka|
|Shinobu Kochou||Saori Hayami|
|Kanao Tsuyuri||Reina Ueda|
|Kyoujurou Rengoku||Satoshi Hino|
|Mitsuri Kanroji||Kana Hanazawa|
|Mouichirou Tokitou||Kengo Kawanishi|
|Muzan Kibutsuji||Toshihiko Seki|
Where can you watch Season 3 of Demon Slayer?
Currently, you cannot watch the third season of Demon Slayer anywhere, since the season hasn’t come out yet and we don’t know the official release date for it. Still, knowing how anime works, you’ll probably be able to stream and/or watch the show on Crunchyroll in the West (possibly even elsewhere, if one of the streaming platforms, like Netflix, buys the show), and as for Japan, we have to wait and see which TV station will broadcast the show.
Will there be a Demon Slayer Season 4?
And while it might be too early to discuss a potential fourth season of Demon Slayer, since we don’t even know officially when the third season is going to air (now that we know that it is in the works), but there are some great indicators that Demon Slayer will go on even after the potential third season.
Namely, Demon Slayer is still nowhere near the manga’s ending and the seasons don’t have a large number of episodes, which means that the producers have less space to develop the plot in one season, but also more space for new seasons, as you don’t really want to rush such shows.
Seeing how popular Demon Slayer is and how well it is doing, as well as taking into consideration the fact that the anime hasn’t adapted the whole story (not even half of it), we don’t see how a potential third season could wrap things up, meaning that a fourth season is also almost sure to happen. But, we’ll have to wait for some official news to be sure.
