‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ to Conclude Adaptation with Three Anime Films

'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba' to Conclude Adaptation with Three Anime Films

Back in February 2024, several months before the official television premiere of the fourth season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, we watched the preview/recap movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training, which gave us an insight into the then-upcoming season, which premiered on May 12, 2024, and ended on June 30, after eight episodes. The Hashira Training Arc was the penultimate arc in the manga, before the two-part Infinity Castle Arc, which is going set to conclude the story written by Koyoharu Gotouge. With Season 4 over, fans wanted to know what would happen to the upcoming season, and while we can confirm that there will not be a Season 5 of Demon Slayer, we can also confirm that the anime will continue. Just in a different form.

Namely, after the conclusion of Season 4, it was confirmed that the manga’s final, major arc – the Infinity Castle Arc – will indeed be adapted but not in the form of an anime series, but rather in the form of three anime feature films, which will thus conclude the story. As of the time of writing, no release date for the movies has been given.

The Demon Slayer anime series premiered back in April 6, 2019, and currently consists of four seasons and 63 episodes. As far as the anime series is concerned, these are the final numbers, as no additional episodes will be produced. But, that doesn’t mean that the adaptation is over, as we’ve said. The franchise has released several movies so far, including the acclaimed Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which serves as a sequel to season one; the other two movies were recap/preview movies that served as a bridge between the seasons.

As far as the future is concerned, we can confirm that the manga’s final arc will be adapted in anime format, but it won’t be an anime season, but rather a series of three feature-length anime movies that will finish the story, as we think, the most epic way possible. So far, information about the upcoming project is scarce, but we have this eerie teaser trailer for you:

As you can see, the teaser highlights the Infinity Castle, the main setting of the final arc, as well as the main characters – the Hashira included – which is a great nod to Season 4, which was surprisingly good, we might add; filled with anime-exclusive content, Season 4 of the anime expanded the story in a beautiful way and it gave us a better insight into the Hashira and their personalities. A poster was also released:

Other information about the upcoming project is unknown. We know that there will be three movies in total, but we don’t know when they are going to air. It is a safe bet that we won’t see anything before the second half of 2025, but it could even extend to 2026. What we can promise you is that we are going to keep you up-to-date with all the latest information, so be sure to keep following us for more!
