President Joe Biden is set to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 individuals this Saturday in one of his final acts before leaving office. The prestigious award is the country’s highest civilian honor and is given to people who have made outstanding contributions to society in various fields such as public service, world peace, culture, and security.

Among those receiving the Medal of Freedom are well-known names from Hollywood, sports, business, and other fields.

Some of the biggest names include actors Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox, as well as musician Bono. Fashion icons Anna Wintour and Ralph Lauren will also be honored, along with basketball legend Magic Johnson, who co-owns the Los Angeles Lakers. Chef José Andrés, known for his humanitarian work and culinary skills, is another recipient.

Other notable honorees include former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, famed conservationist Jane Goodall, and soccer star Lionel Messi. There’s also Bill Nye, the well-known science communicator, and George Soros, a financier and philanthropist.

The list also features George Stevens Jr., the founder of the American Film Institute (AFI), David Rubenstein, a prominent investor, and Tim Gill, a well-known entrepreneur. Several individuals will receive posthumous awards, including Robert F. Kennedy, Ash Carter, Fannie Lou Hamer, and George Romney.

This marks another milestone in Biden’s presidency as he closes out his term by recognizing a diverse group of people who have had an impact on both the United States and the world. Last year, the President presented the Medal of Freedom to individuals like Michelle Yeoh, Phil Donahue, and Mike Bloomberg.

The ceremony will take place at the White House, where Biden will personally present the medals to those who have left their mark on society. It’s an occasion that celebrates the lives and accomplishments of individuals who have made a difference, whether it’s through their work in entertainment, business, or public service.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is a symbol of appreciation and respect for those who have made a lasting impact. This year’s recipients reflect the wide range of achievements that the United States values, from entertainment and sports to politics, business, and humanitarian efforts.

Biden’s decision to honor such a diverse group speaks to his administration’s recognition of the many ways people contribute to the prosperity of the nation and the world. The ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion as the President honors individuals who have shaped history in their own unique ways.
