Does Hinata Die in Naruto: Shippuden or Boruto?

When Masashi Kishimoto started working on Naruto, he probably had no idea that his series would become a franchise that is popular all around the world. The eccentric, yet lovable protagonist, great storylines, a great shinobi world – all of that contributed to the popularity of the franchise and tells us why Naruto is still one of the most popular manga and anime franchises ever. After Naruto’s story was finished, Kishimoto went to work on a next generation of stories that would follow the adventure of Naruto’s and Hinata’s son, Boruto Uzumaki. But we’re not going to talk about him today; we are going to talk about his mother, Hinata Hyūga, whose death is the main topic of today’s article. Did she die in Naruto: Shippuden or Boruto? In the present, the is still alive, but the scene from the future that showed Boruto fight Kawaki suggests that a lot of old Naruto characters – including Naruto himself, Sasuke and Hinata – are, in fact, dead but that has not been confirmed, nor denied in-universe. Kishimoto himself said either Naruto or Hinata will be featured in the series, but not both.

Who is Hinata Hyūga?

Hinata Hyūga (Japanese: 日向 ヒナタ), later Hinata Uzumaki (Japanese: うずまき ヒナタ) is a fictional character appearing in the Naruto franchise, created by Masashi Kishimoto. She is a female shinobi and a good friend of Naruto’s, but also the love of his life. Despite being more of a supporting character, she has an immense role in the story and later becomes Naruto’s wife and the mother of Boruto Uzumaki.

Hinata Hyūga is a member of Team 8 and suffers from a lack of self-confidence. Although she was born from the main branch of the Hyūga clan and raised to become the future head of the clan, Hinata’s shyness and inability to defend herself resulted in her father Hiashi’s strong disapproval after being defeated by her younger sister Hanabi, who became his father’s successor.

Hinata was disowned by Hiashi and placed in the care of Kurenai Yūhi. Under Kurenai’s guidance, Hinata began training to become strong in both abilities and will to prove her worth to her father. Hinata’s growing self-confidence comes mainly from her long admiration for Naruto, as she is inspired by her enthusiasm and her unwavering determination to never give up. As the series progresses, Hinata’s admiration for Naruto eventually turns into love.

During Part II, Hinata confesses her feelings to Naruto as she protects him from Pain and then helps him during the Allied Ninja battle against the Ten-Tails. Following the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, and the events of The Last: Naruto the Movie where she carries out the will of her ancestor Hamura Ōtsutsuki by helping Naruto stop Toneri, Hinata marries Naruto and they have two children in the epilogue of the series.

Does Hinata die in Naruto: Shippuden?

Although we know that not all people like the character of Hinata Hyūga, she survived a potentially fatal stabbing wound in Naruto: Shippuen and is still present, although not heavily featured in the later stories. She gave birth to Boruto at one point, so it’s only natural that she has survived the events of Naruto: Shippuden; in any other case, she would not have been able to be Boruto’s mother, right?

So, why do people even ask this question? The answer lies within Hinata’s encounter with Pain that happened during the “Pain’s Assault” arc that aired from episodes 152 to 175, or – if you prefer the manga – happened between chapters 413 and 453.

When and why does Pain stab Hinata?

While Naruto fights Pain and faces defeat, Hinata comes to help him and protect him from the villain. In episode 166, titled “Confession”, Hinata decides to fight back against Pain using her Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists technique but is soon overpowered by Pain’s Deva Path technique.

Pain wonders why Hinata would go to such lengths to protect Naruto, more so since she was aware that she would be killed if the continued fighting. Hinata explains that she would never give up, as it is her nindo to which Pain reacts with an attack, sending Hinata in the air and pulling her down on the ground. He then uses one of his blades and brutally stabs the already wounded Hinata in front of Naruto. Thinking she was dead, Naruto transformed into his Version 2 form and fought Pain, but he did not know that Hinata actually survived. She was later found and healed by Neji from Team Guy.

Does Hinata die in Boruto?

As of today, the answer to this question remains a mystery. Namely, in the present timeline, Hinata, Boruto’s mother, is still alive, as well as Naruto and Sasuke. So, the answer would be – no, she does not die in Boruto. But, writer and creator Masashi Kishimoto has said in an interview that either Naruto or Hinata would be featured in Boruto, suggesting that one of them was going to die, while the other would live. This interview’s got fans speculating and forming theories ever since, with the most plausible one being that Hinata would be the one to die simply because Naruto was too important and too powerful to be killed off so easily. Nevertheless, we have no clue what Kishimoto has planned for his character so this is just pure speculation. The first scene from the Boruto anime, which gives us a glimpse into the future, whe an older Boruto Uzumaki is facing an opponent named Kawaki during the destruction of his village. This future is dark and it does seem that neither Naruto, nor Sasuke are present during the fight. This also led people to believe that if Naruto was dead, that Hinata would also be dead without a doubt.

The truth remains unclear for the moment, but be sure to follow our site for the answer. And that’s it for today. We hope you had fun reading this and that we helped solve this dilemma for you. See you next time and don’t forget to follow us!
