Does Shizune Appear in Boruto? Will She Become Hokage?
Shizune is a kunoichi with the rank of Jonin, who hails from Konohagakure. She is Tsunade’s constant companion and was trained by her in medical jutsu. Shizune is one of the more intriguing supporting characters from Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto franchise, although her role in the series is not that big. In this article, we are going to talk about Shizune’s role in the story as you will find out whether Shizune appears in Boruto or not and whether she could become Hokage at one point.
Shizune is present in Boruto, although her role in the story is not that big in the sequel to Naruto. She is still working as an assistant to the Hokage, a post she has taken up while Tsunade was Hokage. Unless Naruto suddenly dies, her chances of becoming Hokage are not that high, despite all of her experience and the knowledge she has collected over the years.
The rest of this article is going to, of course, focus on Shizune and her story in Naruto and Boruto. We will elaborate on what happened to her in the series but also give you some additional answers to some related questions concerning Shizune. We must warn you that there will be a lot of spoilers ahead, so if you’re not fully up-to-date with the story, you should be careful how you approach the text.
Does Shizune appear in Boruto?
At one point in the story, Orochimaru wants Tsunade to heal his hands, and in return, he would revive her brother Nawaki and friend Dan. Shizune tries to convince Tsunade not to do this because Orochimaru wants to destroy Konohagakure afterward. Tsunade doesn’t respond to Orochimaru’s suggestion, and shortly thereafter, the two meet Jiraiya and Naruto Uzumaki. Jiraiya wants Tsunade to return to Konoha to become the next Hokage. Tsunade refuses and makes derogatory remarks about the previous Hokage, which upsets Naruto, who then challenges her to a fight, which he loses.
At Jiraiya’s request, Shizune finds a place for him and Naruto to stay. In the hotel room, she tries to explain to Naruto how Tsunade lost everything. Naruto doesn’t respond and goes to practice. Six days later, Shizune is looking for Naruto, whom she sees completely exhausted. She takes him back to the hotel. There, Tsunade takes care of him. After that, she wants to go to meet Orochimaru. Shizune tries to stop them but is knocked out by Tsunade.
When Shizune regains consciousness, Naruto is recovered, and Jiraiya, who was poisoned by Tsunade, shows up and asks Shizune what Orochimaru wants from Tsunade. After she tells him everything, they set off together to stop Tsunade. When they meet Tsunade, she is engaged in a fight with Kabuto. In order to protect her master, Shizune opposes Kabuto, but Yakushi quickly defeats her. During the fight between Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru, she takes care of the injured Naruto.
After Orochimaru and Kabuto retired and Tsunade decided to become Hokage after all, Shizune stayed by her side. Back in Konoha, she is Tsunade’s assistant and performs important missions as a jonin. Upon returning from a mission involving Genma Shiranui, Raidou Namiashi, and Iwashi Tatami, Shizune and her team hear something strange, and Genma and Raidou set off to investigate. After the two don’t return, Shizune and Iwashi search for the two again. When they find her, they are badly injured and lying on the ground. Shizune immediately tends to her injuries while Iwashi prepares to go after the attackers. But Shizune and Genma forbid it as the attackers are too strong.
They take the two injured to Konoha for treatment and tell Tsunade about the Oto Quartet. After Shikamaru’s team is brought back to Konoha, she is one of the medicine ninjas who takes care of Neji Hyuuga. They use Chikatsu Saisei no Jutsu. Attack on Konoha Along with Oyone and Kumadori, Shizune performs an autopsy on the corpse of Pain’s animal body that Shima brought to Konoha, only to discover that the piercings are actually chakra transmitters. Meanwhile, Konoha is attacked by Pain.
Together with Ino Yamanaka’s father, she discovers Pain’s secret. On the way to Tsunade, they are attacked by one of Pain’s bodies. He kills Shizune by stealing her soul. After Naruto convinced Nagato that his path of peace was wrong, Nagato revived everyone who died in the attack on Konoha with a jutsu. A year after the war, Shizune is still at Tsunade’s right hand but cannot help her persuade Kakashi to succeed Tsunade. However, the quarrel between the two is interrupted by the hostage situation on the Tobishachimaru, during which Shizune is not present but advises Tsunade in Konohagakure.
Soon everyone in the office learns how the enemies got onto the ship – and Tsunade orders Shizune to order all available shinobi Konohagakures to the Hoozukijou, the destination of the Tobishachimaru. A little later, she is present during the conversation between Gai and Tsunade, who manage to escape from the ship and takes orders from her master regarding the security of the prison. However, Shizune is just as dismayed as Sakura and everyone else present when Tsunade, after learning from Oonoki what the ship is carrying, orders the ship shot down. Her horror relates to Kakashi, who is still on board.
However, Tsunade’s mind is finally made when the kidnapper makes personal contact and threatens them. Just like all the other Konoha Shinobi, she is present when Tobishachimaru lands on the ground near the prison. She is pleased to watch as Kakashi finally agrees to succeed Tsunade. Twelve years after Kakashi Hiden, she no longer serves as the Hokage’s right-hand man but continues to serve as an assistant during Naruto’s tenure as the Seventh Hokage. Aside from her work, as seen in Naruto Gaiden, she is still friends with Sakura and her family.
So she helps Sarada Uchiha to take care of Sakura when she passes out due to the destruction of the house. In addition, the girl also offers help in organizing reconstruction. However, when Sarada wants to know why no hospital in Konoha has recorded anything about her delivery, Shizune tries to avoid her. Even if she isn’t allowed to tell her anything, she knows that this ignorance affects the girl very deeply.
Shizune does appear in Boruto as well, having – as we have confirmed – survived the events of the Naruto series. Her role is not that big, but she still works as an assistant to the Hokage. She is seen using her medical skills on several occasions in the story, including when she helps Sarada heal her injuries and later when she successfully operates on Boruto himself. She was also seen attending the memorial service for all her fallen comrades of the Fourth Shinobi World War.
Will Shizune become Hokage?
The title of Hokage is the highest rank a Konoha shinobi can attain. Over the course of the story, only the most skilled and best shinobi are selected for the position which is currently occupied by Naruto. Okay, Naruto is technically in another dimension, where he was sealed off by Kawaki, but we don’t think that this is going to be a permanent thing. But Naruto will eventually stop being Hokage, but when that happens, Shizune will be too old to succeed him. And while Shizune does have the experience and the knowledge to fill the position (she is certainly more diligent than both Tsunade and Kakashi, especially the latter), she is not a likely candidate for the position. Due to her age and the fact that there are more skilled shinobi than her to fill the position, Shizune is not a likely candidate for the position of Hokage and will unlikely succeed Naruto, at least on a permanent basis.
