‘Dr. Stone’s Boichi Launches New Manga, ‘The Marshal King,’ in February

It’s been a long time coming, but Boichi, the artist behind Dr. Stone, is finally launching a new manga. After three years of waiting, we’ll soon get to see his incredible artwork on a regular basis again.
Shueisha just revealed that Boichi’s next project, The Marshal King, is set to release this week. This marks his return as both the writer and illustrator of a series, something he hasn’t done in years. The new manga will be part of Shonen Jump+ and will also be available on Manga Plus in English and Spanish starting February 7, 2025.
The announcement came with a teaser showing the shadowy figure of a young man with long hair, wearing a cowboy hat and two holsters. The setting appears to be a Wild West world, a fresh change from the sci-fi themes of Dr. Stone.
Some sharp-eyed readers have already pointed out that the silhouette has a Stanley Snyder vibe, though it’s too soon to tell how similar they’ll actually be.
While the Dr. Stone anime is still airing its final season, many of us miss the original manga, which ended in March 2022 after 232 chapters. Boichi’s return couldn’t come at a better time, giving us something new to dive into while still enjoying his signature art style.
According to Weekly Shonen Jump, The Marshal King follows a young man named Jim Godspeed, son of the notorious outlaw M. Godspeed. For reasons unknown, Jim kills his father and then sets out across the desert carrying his corpse. That eerie premise already sets the stage for an intense and emotional story.
Boichi is known for his high-energy action scenes, stunningly detailed character designs, and explosive combat sequences. If Dr. Stone was any indication, we can expect The Marshal King to be packed with incredible visuals and intense storytelling.
Though most recognize Boichi as an artist, this isn’t his first time taking on the writing role. His 2006 manga Sun-Ken Rock ran for over ten years, and he also wrote Origin, which wrapped up in 2019 after ten volumes. With his experience, there’s no doubt that his new story will have just as much depth as his past works.
