‘Dune’ Prequel Series, ‘Dune: Prophecy,’ Releases First Teaser Trailer, Confirms Release Window

Dennis Villeneuve’s take on Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi saga Dune became a major hit, with both fans and critics agreeing that Villeneuve has made yet another masterpiece as far as the whole franchise is concerned. Both of the films were global hits and we know that the third and final movie of the trilogy, Dune: Messiah, is currently in the works. But, while we wait for the third movie, we are also going to see a prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, which will explore the world of Dune before the first movie. The series is going to premiere on HBO Max later this year, and we are happy to confirm that a trailer for the series has been released, confirming its Fall 2024 release window.
The series was announced some time ago and was described as a prequel that will explore the ancient history behind the main story of Dune, and based on what we know from the trailer and the released images, it is going to deliver!
HBO has just released the first trailer for the upcoming series, so before we continue with out reports, here is the trailer for you to enjoy:
This is the first look at the series that we’ve gotten from HBO, and we can say that we’re quite excited for what is to come. The atmosphere is identical to in Villeneuve’s films and we believe that the writers will deliver a brilliant final product that will serve as an ideal tie-in to the main movies. So, what else do we know about the series?
Well, the trailer confirms that the series will be released in Fall 2024, although we’ll have to wait for an official release date. Diane Ademu-John is credited as the series’ creator, and while Villeneuve won’t have much to do with the series as it stands now, it will be crafted in the spirit of his cinematic vision. The series will be based on the Dune and Sisterhood of Dune novels. As for the plot, here is the official synopsis:
10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.
The series is going to have an amazing cast of characters, who have been officially listed and described officially by HBO as follows:
- Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen
- Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen
- Jodhi May as Empress Natalya, “a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino.”
- Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, “an independent young princess dealing with the pressures of her responsibility as heir to the Golden Lion Throne.”
- Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela, “a strong-willed Fremen woman who serves the royal family while longing for a home planet she’s never known.”
- Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen, “a fierce, unpredictable acolyte in training at the Sisterhood School who rarely reveals her emotional core.”
- Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline, “a zealous acolyte descended from a long line of martyrs, who carries fervent religion to her training at the Sisterhood.”
- Chloe Lea as Lila, “the youngest acolyte at the Sisterhood School with a deep empathy beyond her years.”
- Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, “a charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past, who seeks to gain the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.”
- Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino, “a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.”
- Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia, “a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood who harbors a dangerous secret about her past.”
- Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides, “a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.”
- Josh Heuston as Constantine Corrino, the illegitimate son of Javicco who is “torn between seeking his father’s approval and his own happiness.”
- Edward Davis as Harrow Harkonnen, a “rising politician from a once-great family, who harbors a strong desire to elevate his House to its former glory.”
- Tabu as Sister Francesca, the Emperor’s former lover whose return to the palace “strains the balance of power in the capital.”
- Jihae as Reverend Mother Kasha
