Eric Kripke Comments on ‘Gen V,’ ‘The Boys: Mexico,’ Potential Crossovers, and the Franchise After ‘The Boys’
The Boys is one of the most popular superhero series in the world, and its fourth season premiered on June 13, 2024, with the first three episodes. The season has been Certified Fresh so far, although the fans aren’t as satisfied as it seems. In a recent interview, showrunner Eric Kripke commented on the season and all the novelties introduced in it, but he also discussed the future of the franchise. We know that The Boys have just one more season before ending, but that doesn’t mean that the franchise is dead, according to Kripke, as there are other projects planned.
Kripke has provided us with a lot of background information in a series of recent interviews, so it’s always interesting to see and hear what he has to say about the show, especially when the information he reveals is something important.
In a talk he had with Variety, Kripke discussed the future of the series and the spin-off shows, focusing initially on Gen V, which is the only currently running spin-off. Kripke was asked, among other things, about the possibility of a crossover between The Boys and Gen V, and here is what he revealed:
Do you have any plans for a true crossover ever between “The Boys” and “Gen V”?
I like the idea that there’s strands and Easter eggs that kind of pop back and forth, but full team up — no. I live in total fear of this notion that you have to watch both of them to understand the other one.
And so to me, it’s like, if you want to watch “The Boys,” and you don’t want to watch this other show, don’t watch it. If you want to watch “Gen V” and don’t watch “The Boys” — which I actually know a lot of people that do that — great. They’re each their own story. They each have their own reason for being. They each need to be good enough to exist without the other one existing. But I’m not giving the audience homework.

This is both good, as you don’t have to watch both shows if you don’t like them, but also bad, as we believe that many fans wanted to see a crossover between these two series. Maybe something smaller does happen in the future, but don’t expect something major at this point. He was then asked about The Boys: Mexico, another planner spin-off series.
The Boys: Mexico is a potential spin-off that was announced a while ago. No information had been available for a while, which prompted some fans to think that it had been discarded, but it seems that it’s not going to be like that. We recently reported on something happening on that front, and Kripke basically confirmed that the show is moving forward:
What’s happening with “The Boys: Mexico”?
The deal for the writer is just closing, and then he’s going to start writing the pilot.
