Amazon Prime has had a string of successful comic book adaptations, with both The Boys and Invincible being major hits. Now, building on the success of The Boys, the streaming service released a spin-off series titled Gen V back in September 2023. The series ran for eight episodes in total and was yet another smashing hit for the streaming service, which – of course – led to the announcement of a second season.

The series suffered a major hit when one of its stars, Chance Perdomo, tragically died in a traffic accident not that long ago, but after a brief pause, the production of Season 2 continued, with the production deciding not to recast or replace Perdomo’s character as a sign of respect.

Now, while talking to the media at the San Diego Comic-Con, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who is overseeing the whole fictional universe, revealed that he had the chance to view the premiere episode of Season 2 of Gen V and he provided us with his opinion on the episode, as well as a very notable new addition to the cast.

As we have reported earlier, the series was renewed for a second season in October 2023, after the success of the first season, which also served as a bridge between seasons three and four of The Boys, the main series in the franchise. The series has since entered production, which was delayed for a brief period due to the tragic death of actor Chance Perdomo before commencing once again.

The series has continued shooting and is now set for a 2025 release date, although no precise schedule has been provided. We don’t know how many episodes the season will have, but it will most certainly serve as a bridge between Seasons 4 and 5 of The Boys, much like the first season did for Seasons 3 and 4 of the main series.

After the two series crossed over in Season 4 of The Boys, Gen V is now an integral part of the larger fictional universe, and the producers are very much aware of that fact, which is why they want to capitalize on the success of both series. Eric Kripke is overseeing the production and has recently praised the first episode, as well as the series newcomer, Hamish Linklater (whom you will probably know as the voice of Batman in Batman: Caped Crusader):

“It’s really good. I just saw the season premiere last week. It’s excellent. Hamish [Linklater] , you know, is the new addition to the cast. And he’s amazing – brilliant actor. And I feel like first seasons of shows are always hard, because they’re finding itself a little bit. And I think, no, I think Gen V has found itself.”
