The Fans Have Picked the Best Shows in the Last Five Years and You'll Absolutely Love Them!

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the best TV shows in the last five years. The list includes more than 600 titles, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten series from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.

Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 series on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

10. Severance (2022)

This series doesn’t only deserve to be on this list, it deserves to be much higher. Apple really made a masterpiece with Severance, and we’re more than excited for what the series has in store for us in Season 2. Adam Scott, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette… and all the others are simply amazing, and the story in itself is very captivating, which is why we definitely agree with the series being on this list. It is not just one of the best, but also one of the most important ones on this list.

9. The Bear (2022)

Although the series has been on since 2022, The Bear reached mainstream audiences only recently, when its second season became a proper hit. In that aspect, we can only say that we agree with it ending up in the top 10, as it is a truly interesting series that shows a lot of different aspects of the industry. With excellent performances, especially that of White, The Bear is a series that most definitely captures your attention and has you follow it passionately. In light of all these facts, we definitely agree with this listing.

8. What We Do in the Shadows (2024)

What We Do in the Shadows was definitely a groundbreaking piece of entertainment back when it came out, but the mockumentary horror series did not really age that well. It is still a beloved and dear series, but it’s not really among the ten best ones we’ve seen on television in recent years. Shogun, Ripley, even One Piece… these are just some of the shows that come to mind, so this will be the first of three picks that we don’t agree with. As said, What We Do in the Shadows is an important show, but it does not merit a place on this list.

7. Fallout (2024)

image 2024 07 04 154657435

As far as video game adaptations go, Fallout really did an amazing job. The series remained true to the original material, but it also provided us with a bit of original magic that made the show so special. When you pair that with the fact that the cast performances were absolutely fantastic, especially Goggins’ performance, you have a really great show in front of you, and we think that it deserves to be in the top 10 as far as works created in the last five years go. Honestly, we cannot wait for Season 2 to come out.

6. Our Flag Means Death (2022)

To be frank, and the number of votes suggests the same, we have absolutely no clue how this series ended up in the top 10 and in 6th place, to top it all off. We think that this is definitely the worst title on this list, and we wouldn’t even discuss it seriously as a contender for this list. When you remember the titles that did not make the cut here, there is really no way to understand how this one ended up here, so we can only say that we are as confused as you are.

5. Ted Lasso (2020)

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 7 Recap Ending Explained2

Oh, yes, definitely. Even though the final season was significantly weaker than the first ones, and even though the ending seemed a bit rushed. Ted Lasso was a groundbreaking series that had a lot of humor, but also a lot of heart. A series that can be used as a model for many other shows, as the approach of the whole cast and crew is something admirable. We absolutely agree that Ted Lasso is among the best series in the last five years and we’d even put it higher on this list if you ask us.

4. The Queen’s Gambit (2020)

image 2024 06 05 155944381

The Queen’s Gambit is somewhere along the lines of Chernobyl, which will also be on this list. A miniseries focused on a great story with a stellar performance by Anya Taylor-Joy, The Queen’s Gambit definitely deserves to be on this list and we can only agree with this listing in every way. It is a truly memorable project for Netflix and the fact that we’re still talking about it four years after its release suggests that it really did leave a mark, and we can confirm that we love it as well.

3. The Mandalorian (2019)

The only Star Wars series on this list, The Mandalorian managed to do what no other Star Wars project did – it united all audiences! Even those who had never seen a Star Wars work rushed to watch Mando and Little Grogu on their adventures, as the series managed to combine the essence of what Star Wars is with high-quality content and stories. Pedro Pascal’s charming performance as the titular protagonist also helped, so we can agree with this listing.

2. The Boys (2019)

'The Boys' Renewed For Season 5 a Month Before Season 4 Premiere!

The Boys might not be the second-best series after five years, but when it came out – it was a major hit. The series is still popular and is doing extremely well, but the impact it had when it came out in 2019, breaking all established superhero traditions and showing us a distorted point of view on that world, was absolutely amazing and we can only say that we agree with the listing, although we’d probably change the position from this perspective.

1. Chernobyl (2019)

image 2024 06 05 153206996

Is the HBO miniseries about the Soviet nuclear incident truly the best? We’re inclined to say it is. Chernobyl was absolutely perfect in every way imaginable, and HBO did a brilliant job with the series. With stellar performances by the cast members, Chernobyl entered history in quick succession, and we actually agree completely that it is, indeed, the best series in the last five years. The drama was effectively combined with historical facts, creating a series that is a source of both entertainment and knowledge, which is a formula that should be copied by other shows as well.
