Fans Launch Petition to Save ‘The Acolyte,’ the Numbers Are Solid
The Acolyte, Disney’s most recent Star Wars project, has generated a lot of controversy since its debut due to a number of incidents and notable cases of review-bombing. Despite the outrage surrounding it surpassing all previous Star Wars-related scandals, the show finished its first, and ultimately final, eight-episode season recently, with many claiming that the final episodes redeemed the whole series.
It was recently reported that Lucasfilm is not going to move forward with The Acolyte and that there won’t be a second season of the show, despite the fact that fans had been expecting one. Naturally, this sparked fresh conversations in which some individuals expressed their happiness at the show’s ending and others their regret.
In this report, we are going to focus on the latter group of fans, who voiced their concern over the series’ cancelation and launched an online petition to renew The Acolyte for a second season, in a very short time, the series has gained an impressive amount of support.
As we’ve said, The Acolyte has been canceled by Disney and we won’t be seeing a second season. Okay, that is more or less what everyone expected and we took it as a fact. There’s not much anyone can do anyway. But, while we are aware that a lot of fans were happy to hear this, the voices of those who did not want to see the show canceled also have to be considered.
Namely, a group of fans launched an online petition in support of the canceled series, wanting it back for another season. In a very short time, the petition gained almost 29,000 supporters, which is a solid number in our book. As to why this was done, this is how the author of the petition described it:
The Acolyte opened the doors for so many Star Wars fans, new and old, to feel seen. To feel welcomed and accepted by an IP and fandom that hadn’t previously been so for anyone who didn’t check off certain boxes. Not only that, but The Acolyte became a beacon for representation that many fans have felt was lacking in the Star Wars universe for decades.
With both creators and actors that truly understood the world of Star Wars, The Acolyte quickly became a fan favorite because of the clear passion and love shown in the work, and the drive to give us something new and fresh to fall in love with. New characters with new stories that still existed within the same galaxies we cherished.
Regardless of the orchestrated review bombing by a small faction of loud trolls, and all of the other obstacles this show had to face straight out the gate, it trended repeatedly throughout and after the show aired. It has a very dedicated fanbase, willing to fight for its continuation. It’s a story that deserves to be told.

As you can see, the reasons are noble and the petition is gaining momentum. It probably won’t influence Lucasfilm’s decision, but it is interesting to see that the series has a lot of devoted fans, nevertheless.
