‘Final Fantasy 7’ Director Wants More Movies
Yoshinori Kitase, known for directing Final Fantasy 6, 7, and 8, and currently producing the FF7 remake trilogy, recently shared his personal wish for a new movie or TV series set in the Final Fantasy 7 universe.
In a conversation with Danny Peña, Kitase mentioned that while there’s no official plan, he’s aware of Hollywood directors and actors who appreciate Final Fantasy 7.
He expressed interest in seeing these creators develop a cinematic or visual project based on the game.
Kitase previously worked on Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, a 2005 CG film that continued the original game’s story.
Last year, Advent Children Complete, the director’s cut, had a limited run in US theaters ahead of the PS5 release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is scheduled for PC release on January 23, 2025.
The enduring popularity of Final Fantasy 7 has led to various adaptations and spin-offs over the years.
The game’s rich narrative and complex characters have captivated audiences worldwide, making it a prime candidate for further exploration in different media formats.
While no official announcements have been made regarding new film or TV adaptations, Kitase’s enthusiasm reflects a broader interest in expanding the Final Fantasy 7 universe beyond video games.
The success of previous adaptations like Advent Children demonstrates the potential for future projects to resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers.
As the gaming industry continues to intersect with other entertainment sectors, the possibility of a new Final Fantasy 7 movie or series remains an exciting prospect for many.
Kitase’s comments have sparked discussions among enthusiasts about what form such a project could take and which aspects of the game’s expansive lore it might explore.
For now, fans can look forward to the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC, continuing the reimagined journey of Cloud and his companions.
Whether or not a new cinematic venture materializes, the legacy of Final Fantasy 7 continues to thrive across various platforms and generations.
