Amazon has just released the first trailer from the upcoming action SF movie The Tomorrow War. The trailer gave us a first look at the characters played by Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski, as well as a little insight into the action scenes of the film, which include the ruined city on fire.

The director of the film is Chris McKay (Robot Chicken, The Lego Batman Movie) based on a screenplay written by Zach Dean (Deadfall, 24 Hours to Live). The film was originally planned for theaters, but ultimately Amazon bought the distribution rights due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from 2051 to deliver an urgent message to them: thirty years into the future, humanity is losing the war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is to transport soldiers and civilians from the present to the future and join the fight. Among those who decide to go into combat is a high school professor and family man Dan Forester. Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist and her estranged father in a desperate search to reshape the fate of the planet.

Starring Chris Pratt, J.K. Simmons, Yvonne Strahovski and Betty Gilpin. Other roles include Sam Richardson, Theo Von, Jasmine Matthews, Keith Powers, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Edwin Hodge, Mike Mitchell, Seychelle Gabriel, Alan Trong, Chibuikem Uche and Alexis Louder.

The Tomorrow War arrives on Amazon Prime on July 2nd.
