The highly popular My Hero Academia franchise is expanding with a brand-new anime series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, set to premiere on April 7, 2025. This spin-off and prequel to the main series takes place five years before the original story and introduces a fresh protagonist while still featuring some familiar faces.

Excitement has been building as new details continue to emerge. This week, the official website for Vigilantes, along with Japanese news outlet Comic Natalie, confirmed that several key voice actors from the original series are reprising their roles.

Fans who were concerned about potential casting changes can now rest easy, knowing that Kenta Miyake (All Might), Junichi Suwabe (Eraser Head), Hiroyuki Yoshino (Present Mic), Akeno Watanabe (Midnight), and Kaito Ishikawa (Ingenium) are all returning. This also confirms that these beloved characters will have roles in the new series, despite the focus shifting to a new main character.

In addition to these returning stars, new voice actors have been announced for the series’ lead characters. Shuichiro Umeda will voice Koichi Haimawari (The Crawler), Ikumi Hasegawa will play Pop Step, and Yasuhiro Mamiya will bring Knuckle Duster to life.

The series is being directed by Kenichi Suzuki, with Yosuke Kuroda handling the script. BONES FILM is in charge of animation production, ensuring the same high-quality visuals that fans have come to expect.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, based on the manga by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court, follows Koichi Haimawari, a young man who lacks the qualifications to become a pro hero. Instead, he uses his modest Quirk to help people in small ways—until he crosses paths with the rough-and-tumble Knuckle Duster.

Together, they take on criminals and uncover a dangerous underground drug called Trigger, which enhances Quirks at the cost of the user’s sanity. Unlike the well-regulated heroes of My Hero Academia, Koichi and his allies operate in the shadows, bending the law to fight injustice.

While the Japanese voice cast is confirmed, there is no word yet on whether the English dub actors will return. Given the popularity of the franchise, there’s a good chance that major voice actors will reprise their roles, but fans will have to wait for an official announcement.

The Vigilantes manga originally debuted in 2016 and ran until 2022, wrapping up with 15 volumes. Now, the anime adaptation is set to introduce a new generation of viewers to the gritty world of underground heroes.

With My Hero Academia: Vigilantes set to premiere in just a few months, the anticipation is only growing. Will this spin-off live up to the hype? We’ll find out soon enough.
