Game of Thrones, whether you liked the ending or not, was a major hit for HBO, and it is still regarded as one of the best series of all time, especially within the fantasy genre. We know that the service is currently preparing for the second season of the spin-off House of the Dragon, whose second season is going to premiere soon, but we also know that a prequel series titled Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is in the works and we have recently received some exciting casting updates for the upcoming series.

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is going to be a prequel series set within the same world, based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg series, which is a series of novellas written by George R. R. Martin. The series actually focuses on the adventures of “Dunk” (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and “Egg” (the future King Aegon V Targaryen) and is set roughly 90 years before the start of the novels.

It was confirmed on January 21, 2021, that HBO was working on an adaptation of the novellas, but at the time, it was still in the very early stages of development. On April 12, 2023, it was officially confirmed that the series had been given a straight-to-series order, although no further release details were revealed at the time, although an official preview synopsis was released:

A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

It has also been confirmed, in the meantime, that Martin and Ira Parker will serve as writers and executive producers on the show, with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also executive producing. But, that is not the major scoop we have for you. Namely, as we have stated, the two principal characters of the series have been cast, and we can confirm that Peter Claffey has been cast as Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell has been cast as Egg.

Both of them are known figures in the world of acting, and this series will certainly be a major project for them, which is why we are happy to report this. More updates will be revealed in the upcoming months, so be sure to keep following us.
