Continuing our series of articles on the Digimon franchise, we are going to deal with their specific powers. The world of Digimon is a very large universe that has a lot of different creatures. As of the moment of writing this article, there are over 1,400 different species of Digimon. Some Digimon are weaker, some are stronger and it is the latter group that has usually played the biggest role in the series. Having that in mind, we have decided to give you a list of the 20 strongest Digimon in the whole franchise, with the exception that we are going to focus on the anime series and the material directly tied to the anime series (including manga and video game tie-ins).
From bottom to top, the 20 strongest Digimon are Machinedramon, Susanoomon, ShineGreymon Burst Mode, Gallantmon, BlackWarGreymon, Piedmon, Dragomon, Apocalymon, MaloMyotismon, Daemon, Lucemon, the Ten Legendary Warriors, Huanglongmon, MegaDarknessBagramon, Imperialdramon Paladin Mode, Jesmon GX, Alphamon, Omnimon X, Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode and ZeedMillenniummon.
Why just the anime? Well, the expanded universe of Digimon merchandise is extremely large and there is currently no established continuity that would allow us to evaluate the objective strength of Galactimon (Digimon World 3) when compared to Omnimon X, for example. On the other hand, Digimon such as ZeedMillenniummon or Arkadimon’s higher level can be included despite not being featured in the anime, because their stories are connected to the anime series and there is a way to compare them. This is why we have decided to structure our list like this and we hope you’ll have fun reading it!
Oh, also – the list is going to include actual Digimon only, so there will be no digital entities such as D-Reaper or Yggdrasil.
Let us begin!
|Mega||Virus||Machine Digimon||Giga Cannon|
Machinedramon (or Mugendramon) is a Mega-level Machine Digimon that debuted in the Digimon Adventure anime as one of the Dark Masters. His whole body is covered in full metal, a strong ally, and he is known as the Digital World’s strongest Digimon. Machinedramon was built by synthesizing the parts of many Cyborg Digimon, and it is thought that all of the Cyborg Digimon produced so far were merely prototypes for the completion of Machinedramon. Machinedramon’s power level is so immense that it can defeat and destroy most Digimon, as is its intelligence; he is an excellent tactician, but being a machine, he has no soul or emotions, which makes him the perfect killing machine, but also vulnerable. Instead of a soul, someone planted a program containing evil intentions within the DigiCore at the centre of its body, and Machinedramon is supplied with infinite power from that malice-filled DigiCore.
We start off our list with Machinedramon simply because the Mega-level Dark Master is constantly described as one of the strongest Digimon in the Digital World. Piedmon, the leader of the Dark Masters, once described Machinedramon as a perfect killing machine that represents sheer, brutal force. His power is enormous and can destroy whole cities and terrains. Machinedramon has featured in several anime and video games as a main or supporting enemy, which just confirms his status within the franchise as one of the strongest and most dangerous Digimon. He has been portrayed both as a highly intelligent tactician and as a mindless creature of destruction, depending on the writer, but he was always enormously strong and a fear-inducing enemy. Machinedramon is also one of the Digimon present in the code of ZeedMillenniummon, the strongest Digimon ever.
Still, despite being so powerful, Machinedramon is far from undefeatable, as each anime iteration (Adventure, Xros Wars, tri.) showed and although he is a foe that requires your absolute best, he is not the strongest opponent you’ll face in the Digital World.
|Mega||Vaccine||God Man Digimon||Celestial Blade|
Susanoomon is a Mega-level God Man Digimon that debuted in Digimon Frontier. Susanoomon is a legendary Digimon connected to the tale of the Ancient Warriors. The Oriental legends that speak of it describe it as the strongest destructive god and the god which governs over regeneration, meaning that Susanoomon reigns over two opposing forces. It is also told that when the Network System descends into chaos, it will erase the existing system, and create a new one. It wields the “ZERO-ARMS: Orochi”, which emanates a gigantic sword of light. The sword can pierce through anything in the Digital World and is a symbol of Susanoomon’s enormous power. He is based on the Japanese deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto.
Susanoomon is a powerful warrior that combines the power of the ten Spirits (both H-Spirits and B-Spirits) of the Ancient Warriors. He is basically a deity and is exceptionally powerful, although his anime appearances (Frontier, Xros Wars) never truly explored the mythology behind his character. He was the ultimate Digivolution of the Frontier DigiDestined and was thus able to defeat all of Lucemon’s forms, showing his immense power when fighting the chaotic Demon Lord. Sadly, the anime hasn’t really explored much of Susanoomon’s powers besides the ones necessary for Lucemon’s defeat – which is still more than enough, don’t get us wrong, but we just think that Susanoomon has much more to offer due to his divine attributes.
Susanoomon would certainly be able to defeat Machinedramon but due to a lot of his anime-based powers being connected with his heroic status, we cannot objectively evaluate his powers when compared to the other Digimon on this list; heck, even Lucemon, whom Susanoomon has defeates, is objectively stronger than Susanoomon, but Susanoomon had to win because Lucemon was the antagonist. And that is fine by us, we all cheered for Susanoomon in that epic battle, but that is why – objectively – we decided to place him here.
18. ShineGreymon Burst Mode
|Mega||Vaccine||Light Dragon||Corona Blaze Sword|
ShineGreymon Burst Mode is a Mega-level Light Dragon Digimon that debuted in the Digimon Data Squad anime. It is a unique form of ShineGreymon that has temporarily reached the limits of its abilities through Burst Digivolution, and wears an aura of solar-class high-energy flames. ShineGreymon Burst Mode looks like an enhanced version of ShineGreymon, replacing all golden parts of its armour with red, the fin on its helmet has gotten bigger, it lost all the spikes it retained in its previous form. Its wings are now made of fire, and the tip of its tail has been replaced with a lit flame. It also wields a flame sword and a flame shield, which are made out of pure energy and have extreme destructive potential.
ShineGreymon was, even without the power of a Burst Evolution, an extremely powerful Digimon, but given the said enhancement – he is exceptional. He was, by far, the strongest of the DigiDestined’s Digimon and was even able to defeat the extremely dangerous Argomon in the Savers movie – information on which you can check in our other article. It is lucky that ShineGreymon is a good guy, because the destructive power he has is truly enormous.
The best way to evaluate his powers is to see the destructive power of ShineGreymon Ruin Mode, which is a corrupt form of ShineGreymon, who defeated his comrades, hurting his pride, and unleashed his power through hatred. Its desire for unlimited power transformed its solar energy, which was originally “positive” energy, into dark energy, which is “negative” energy. His Special Moves have all been drastically enhanced by dark energy as well. This actually happened in the anime and we all remember how dangerous Ruin Mode was. Now, Burst Mode is actually just the polar opposite of Ruin Mode, but even stronger so you can imagine how strong ShineGreymon can be.
Due to Susanoomon’s full powers not being revealed, we must conclude that ShineGreymon Burst Mode would be able to defeat him in a direct clash, but he is still not the most powerful guy on our list.
|Mega||Virus||Holy Knight||Lightning Joust|
Gallantmon (or Dukemon) is a Mega-level Holy Knight Digimon that debuted as the Mega level of Takato’s Guilmon in Digimon Tamers. Gallantmon is one of the Royal Knights and is depicted as a guardian deity of the Net despite being a Virus Digimon; this means that if, by any chance, his balance is lost, it is possible for him to become a dangerous being. It pilots the Flying Dragon machine Grani as a dragon knight that races across the skies. It is clad in holy armour refined and constructed from 99.9% pure Chrome Digizoid (one of the strongest digital metals), and its right hand can become the holy lance Gram, rivalled only by Darkdramon’s “Gigastick Lance”, while its left hand can become the holy shield Aegis. It honours chivalry and is a loyal vassal towards its lord.
Two versions of Gallantmon appeared in the anime, the one from Digimon Tamers (who also appeared in Xros Wars) and the one from Digimon Data Squad. Both of these versions have been portrayed as being extremely powerful.
The Tamers iteration was actually Takato’s partner and the Digimon that helped defeat D-Reaper’s powerful final form. Gallantmon had enormous powers that were further boosted through his connection with Takato and, additionally, through is fusion with Grani, which created Gallantmon Crimson Mode, an even more powerful version of Gallantmon. As for the Savers version, Gallantmon was, here, a member of the Royal Knights that protected Yggdrasil and was a fearsome and powerful opponent. Still, he had a conscience and ultimately turned on Yggdrasil after realising his methods are wrong, which showed just how noble he was. He also has a powerful X-Form that appeared in the movie Digital Monster X-Evolution.
Gallantmon is without a doubt a great warrior. His victory over D-Reaper and his membership in the Royal Knights is proof enough of that, because only a powerful Digimon could achieve that. Him being a member of the Royal Knights is enough for him to top all the Digimon before him on his list, but since he’s not actually the top tier among the Knights, we don’t think that he could beat the other Digimon on our list.
|Mega||Virus||Dragon Man||Terra Destroyer|
BlackWarGreymon is a Mega-level Dragon Man Digimon that first appeared in Digimon Adventure 02. BlackWarGreymon is actually just a Virus-species WarGreymon with different colouring; he is nicknamed the Jet-black Dragon Warrior or the Black Knight. Although its creed and principles are the polar opposite of those of the Virus Buster WarGreymon, it exists for the sake of its own peculiar justice, which is not antagonistic per se. It detests cowardice and foul play, and it doesn’t consider itself a fellow of vulgar Digimon, even if they are of the same Virus-species. The full details of how it converted to a Virus are a mystery, and the Brave Shield equipped to its back is not engraved with the Crest of Courage, like it is with a normal WarGreymon (although in Digimon Battle, it’s shield does indeed have the Crest). Although usually being described as one, BlackWarGreymon is not an antagonist per se as he is not evil, he just has a personal brand of justice; the best way to describe him would be to label him as an antihero.
BlackWarGreymon was, in Digimon Adventure 02, created by merging a 100 Control Spires; he was designed to be a powerful, yet soulless creature of destruction. He was strong, so strong in fact that even Tai’s WarGreymon could not defeat him. He caused chaos and destruction everywhere he went, but at one point he realised he had a soul and wanted to change his ways, going on an existential journey of self-discovery which ended in his heroic sacrifice. As for his powers, he is as strong as a regular WarGreymon and he was even able to withstand a fight against WarGreymon and Imperialdramon at the same time. He did ultimately lose to MaloMyotismon, who’s higher on our list, but even then he had enough power to use his remaining energy to seal some Digital Gates and cause trouble for his killer. When exposed to the X-Antibody, he transforms into BlackWarGreymon X, an even more powerful version of himself.
There is absolutely no doubt that BlackWarGreymon is one of the most powerful Digimon out there. Combining WarGreymon’s enormous power with his own, special traits, BlackWarGreymon became one of the strongest warriors out there and we are certain that he would beat all of the names that came before him, even the Royal Knight Gallantmon. In addition to that, he has proven to be a truly wonderful character whose powers aren’t just pure physical strength, but also a big heart.
|Mega||Virus||Demon Man Digimon||Trump Sword|
Piedmon (or Piemon) is a Mega-level Demon Man Digimon that debuted in Digimon Adventure as the leader of the Dark Masters. He is a strange, clown-looking and elusive Digimon that is completely shrouded in mystery. Demon Man Digimon generally have many mysterious qualities, and since Demon- and Undead-species are basically beings from another dimension, their true identities are completely misunderstood. It is unclear why Piedmon appeared and what the exact purpose of his existence is, and there is currently no plausible way to answer these questions. Yet, despite all of the mystery surrounding him, Piedmon is enormously strong and if you happen to cross paths with this “Clown from Hell”, you probably won’t have a very good time. He has four swords pierced through the “Magic Box” on its back and can use a variety of other tricks to defeat you.
Talking about Piedmon is a really entertaining thing to do. Despite being an evil, ruthless Digimon and the leader of the powerful Dark Masters, Piedmon is a highly entertaining and complex, albeit psychopathic character. Despite being in the same team as the powerful Machinedramon, Piedmon is still way stronger than the heartless machine and far more intelligence. The actual list of his powers is probably far bigger than we know and even that which we know at this moment is truly amazing. He can teleport himself, he can use different types of attacks, he can change his shape, he can transform other Digimon into keychains, he can summon a group of Vilemon, he is exceptionally fast and he seems to be indestructible. He has been an opponent in the Digital World on several occasions (Adventure and tri. give a brief insight into Piedmon’s adventures) and he never died (unlike MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon and Machinedramon, but even other opponents such as Devimon, Myotismon and even his own creator, Apocalymon). He was was also able to take on WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon at the same time, which is amazing. He was ultimately defeated, but only after being shot through MagnaAngemon’s Gate of Destiny to another dimension. Although his fate remains a mystery as well, it is assumed by most that he did not die but was rather just sealed away, which speaks for itself.
Piedmon is, without a doubt, immensely powerful and the detailed insight into his feats provided above is proof enough of that. He has withstood a fight with the DigiDestined, quite probably without dying, which is absolutely amazing. Still, despite being the most powerful Digimon on our list so far, he is physically inferior to most of the Digimon that follow, which is why we cannot put him higher on the list, but he is still the strongest “regular” Digimon on here.
|Ultimate||Virus||Aquatic Beast Man Digimon||Forbidden Trident|
Dragomon (or Dagomon) is a Virus-type Ultimate-level Digimon that debuted as a silhouette in Digimon Adventure 02. Dragomon is an evil god Digimon called the Sinful Priest of the Ocean Floor (or Depraved Monk of the Deep). It is thought to have evolved from a computer virus that would infect the computers aboard ships and the like, then knock their direction and course out of order. It bundles up its innumerable, multiplying tentacles, and takes on a humanoid appearance, but its true shape is a strange evolution of a Mollusk Digimon, so it’s as much an abomination as any protean thing akin to H.P. Lovecraft’s monsters; Dragomon’s original Japanese name (Dagomon) is a reference to Lovecraft’s monster Dagon, while his design is a reference to Cthulhu. It is said that, with just a few exceptions, those who see this true form will have their lives erased from this world (which is also a Lovecraftian reference, as those who would see the visage of Cthulhu would lose their minds completely and permanently). For its defeated opponents, it wears a prayer beads around its neck, chants sutras, and adopts a pose similar to mourning.
Okay, this might be a controversial pick as we have absolutely no clue as to Dragomon’s actual powers. Namely, the guy appeared as an eerie silhouette in Digimon Adventure 02 and as a sort of gimmick in Xros Wars, but we’re not counting the latter. When talking about Dragomon, we are talking about the silhouette from 02 that rules over the Dark Ocean, where Kari was summoned during one episode. Sadly, despite setting up a great mystery, the writers decided to completely ignore it from that episode onward and Dragomon was, sadly, never again mentioned outside 02. What we know about him is that he is a deity and that he rules over s very strange part of the Digital World. We also know that the is a feared entity and that the creatures (shadowy Divermon) living in his realm ask for Kari’s help in order to defeat Dragomon. The Dark Ocean appears again in tri., along with the shadowy Divermon, but Dragomon doesn’t make an appearance, although it is possible that he caused the waves that eventually killed Maki Himekawa. As was revealed later on, the Dark Ocean is a third world (alongside the Real and the Digital Worlds) and Dragomon is its sole rules. We know that both MaloMyotismon and Daemon wanted to avoid Dragomon and that Daemon was actually trapped inside the Dark Ocean, proving that Dragomon’s world was powerful enough to hold even a Demon Lord. And that’s all we know, sadly. But all that we know does point to Dragomon being an extremely powerful creature, despite being an Ultimate-level Digimon.
Dragomon is the only Ultimate-level (or non-Mega) Digimon on this list, but due to the fact that he has his own world he rules over and that both MaloMyotismon and Daemon, two very powerful Digimon, didn’t want to meet Dragomon, we assume that he definitely does deserve such a high spot on our list.
Apocalymon is an Unidentified Mega-level Digimon that debuted as the main antagonist in Digimon Adventure. It is a Digimon who appeared when negative thoughts were drawn together by darkness and merged into a digital being. Apocalymon is a very mysterious entity whose very nature is so unclear that it may not even be a Digimon. Some claim it appeared to purge the chaos of cyberspace, and reduce it back to nothing; others claim its arrival was spoken of in ancient texts. Apocalymon takes the form of a blue-skinned humanoid wearing a black cape with red trimming, a grey helmet with yellow markings, and a scar on its left eye. Its arms are long with black bands on the forearms and its hands are larger than normal hands and have red claws. Its hair is a dirty white, and it has yellow eyes. From the waist down, it is a giant polyhedron the size of a planetoid that can bring out giant metal claws on dual helix chains. In Digimon World 4, it is capable of separating from its polyhedron body giving itself a small floating platform that has a spike with three pointed, spinning props on the underside for a lower body.
Apocalymon was the main antagonist of Digimon Adventure, who revealed himself after the DigiDestined defeated the Dark Masters. He introduced himself as a rejected Digimon, a Digimon created from hatred and rejection, who represents all the evil Digimon in the Digital World; in this continuity, he is the source of all evil in the Digital World, as he himself created all the antagonists the DigiDestined face (the Dark Masers included). He exists outside of time and space, he can manipulate space and reality and he is able to mimic all the attacks of his creations; he’s so powerful that he even managed to wipe the DigiDestined completely out of existence. It is said that his appearance brings forth the destruction of the Digital World, which is why the DigiDestined in Adventure had to seal his body up in order to prevent a cataclysmic explosion that would destroy both worlds.
This is the true extent of the tormented Apocalymon’s powers. He is a destructive force powered by vendetta and he is certainly a foe to be feared. Luckily enough, there is a way of defeating him, too.
|Mega||Virus||Demon Lord Digimon||Pandemonium|
MaloMyotismon (or BelialVamdemon) is a Mega-level Demon Lord Digimon that first appeared in Digimon Adventure 02. He is said to be Myotismon’s final form (despite Myotismon already having a Mega level, VenomMyotismon), and by harmonizing his intelligence alongside all of his other aspects, he succeeded in surpassing VenomMyotismon, which lost his intelligence by seeking too much power and was like a beast. He has an inhumanly cruel personality, and is willing to do anything to achieve his own desires, which makes him an exceptionally menacing opponent. The living, jaw-like artillery cannons on both its left and right shoulders, Sodom and Gomorrah respectively, leech off of it.
When the DigiDestined initially defeated Myotismon, everyone thought it was over but then came VenomMyotismon. The DigiDestined defeated that abomination too, thinking it was over, but imagine their surprise (and ours) when the main antagonist of 02 wasn’t Oikawa, but rather Oikawa possessed by MaloMyotismon. Just imagine the powerlust this guy has! He died twice before coming back even stronger, all because he wanted more power and revenge. He makes us sick to our stomach but you really have to admire the guy’s persistance. So, not only is this guy ridiculously strong (he can literally melt things with his menacing guns and he even killed BlackWarGreymon), he is also incredibly cruel, having absolutely no hesitation or sense for mercy. Myotismon had such emotions, he even care – in his own twisted way – for Gatomon; VenomMyotismon had nothing, but he was essentially an animal. But this guy… this guy is an upgraded Myotismon with the emotional spectre of Machinedramon – so absolutely nothing. He caused a lot of problems for the DigiDestined and was defeated only through the combined effort of the children, similar to Apocalymon (yes, the guy from before), which speaks enough about the threat he represented.
MaloMyotismon is a genuine threat and we think that he could defeat even Apocalymon. Why? Well, Apocalymon created Myotismon (and through him VenomMyotismon) but he didn’t create MaloMyotismon, whose hatred resulted in creation, surpassing Apocalymon’s initial creation. This is why we think that MaloMyotismon is on a higher power level than the other Digimon on this list.
|Mega||Virus||Demon Lord Digimon||Evil Inferno|
Daemon (or Demon) is a Mega-level Demon Lord Digimon that debuted in Digimon Adventure 02. Daemon is one of the Seven Great Demon Lords, representing Jupiter and the sin of Wrath. He leads the many Devil and Fallen Angel Digimon, and like Devimon, it was originally an Angel Digimon, and a particularly high-ranking one. It is said that before he fell to the Dark Area and became a Demon Lord Digimon, he was in fact a Seraphimon. However, because it raged in fury or rebellion against a being of goodness in the Digital World (perhaps the very human that created the Digital World), it was deleted to the Dark Area. It has vowed to one day conquer the Digital World in revenge against the being of goodness. Also, while it led the rebellion, and was the strongest among the Megas, it plotted to secretly revive the “Ultra Digimon” – Lucemon Chaos Mode.
As far as the original Adventure arc is concerned, Daemon is by far the strongest opponent the DigiDestined have faced. He came from Digital Hell and wanted the Dark Seed from Oikawa (MaloMyotismon). MaloMyotismon didn’t want to fight him, knowing that even he could not defeat the infernal lord. Daemon is incredibly powerful – he has strong attacks, he can change his size and he is virtually invulnerable. And while his Daemon Corps were defeated, Daemon himself was too powerful for everyone in the anime, even the combined forces of the DigiDestined. This makes sense. Daemon is a Great Demon Lord and the strongest one behind Lucemon, although when Lucemon is not present, Daemon is the leader of the Demon Lords. The version that appeared in the anime is not Daemon’s final form; that form is called Daemon (Mantled), while his real, monstrous form (without the mantle) is called Daemon, but that version hasn’t appeared in the anime. There’s no big difference in their powers, but the unmantled version is less restrained and more feral.
Seeing that MaloMyotismon wanted to avoid a fight against Daemon at all costs and that even the combined efforts of the DigiDestined couldn’t even harm him, there should be no doubt as to Daemon’s position on this list. The DigiDestined “defeated” him by sending him to Dragomon’s Dark Ocean (sure, Daemon was hesitant to encounter Dragomon, but he wasn’t afraid), where from he eventually escaped as illustrated in tri., since he was not there anymore. tri. also mentions Daemon once more, but sadly, the writers never explored that plotline so we’ll have to wait and see if the Great Demon Lord makes another appearance.
|Mega||Virus||Demon God Digimon||Tide of Despair|
Lucemon is a very special Digimon that initially appeared as the primary antagonist of Digimon Frontier and as a secondary antagonist in Digimon Xros Wars. Lucemon has a very irregular Digivolution pattern, starting from Rookie (top left), to Ultimate (top right) and then having two Mega forms simultaneously, with the Larva Mode (bottom left) being the brains and the Shadowlord Mode (bottom right) being the destructive force (similar to VenomMyotismon). The interesting thing is that each form is enormously strong, even the Rookie form, which has the powers of a Mega-level Digimon.
In his Rookie form, it has the appearance of a child, and is said to have descended to the ancient Digital World long ago, in an era in which the Digital World was still chaotic, and it is said that it brought about order and harmony. However, a long period of darkness was summoned due to Lucemon’s later “Rebellion” but he was defeated by the Ten Legendary Warriors. It is said that Lucemon’s abilities have now been inherited and split among the Celestial Digimon. When Digivolving to Chaos Mode, Lucemon became one of the Seven Great Demon Lords, representing the Sun and the sin of Pride. He is the strongest of the group, and possesses both divine and diabolic abilities. He instigated a rebellion in the far-flung past, and so he was sealed in the Dark Area. Although an Ultimate-level, his powers surpass those of Mega-level Digimon, and are said to rival those of the existence called “God”. He has a contradictory nature, in that one side of him loves all things, as God does, while the other is trying to destroy the whole world, as the Devil does. Hence, once he destroys this world, he intends to create a fresh new world. This is the form that Daemon secretly wants to revive.
When finally achieving his Mega level, Lucemon takes on two forms – the Larva Mode and the Shadowlord Mode. Larva Mode is Lucemon’s true form and is said to be the epitome of its evil will. It possesses a will and is able to speak. It is minuscule, so it operates Lucemon Shadowlord Mode, who is no more than its shadow, while hiding within the orb of darkness that it carries, “Gehenna”, which nullifies every attack and prevents it from reaching Lucemon Larva. Lucemon Shadowlord Mode has the appearance of the dragon of Revelation, and it is Lucemon’s final form and the avatar of its evil. As was told in the Revelation, it carries the Crowns of the Seven Deadly Sins upon its head, and it holds the orb of darkness, “Gehenna”, which absorbs all attacks. It is said that the world will perish when Lucemon takes this form. However, as we’ve said, this form is just an avatar of Lucemon’s true, Larva Form.
And this is the story of Lucemon, one of the most powerful Digimon in existence. Due to his forms and the powers he possesses, it is very difficult to objectively evaluate all of his skills.
His Rookie form was powerful enough to fight Mega-level Digimon and even control two Royal Knights, Dynasmon and Crusadermon. It took the combined powers of the Ten Legendary Warriors to stop him and seal him away, and that speaks for itself. His Ultimate Form was stronger than anything the DigiDestined had to offer (until Susanoomon came along) and it is the form that is, according to the prophecies, going to change the order in the Digital World. Lucemon Chaos Mode is extremely strong but also incredibly fast, which makes him an opponent even Daemon fears. As far as Shadowlord Mode is concerned, it is a mindless monster, but its size and the energy it has that make him a dreadful foe; Larva Mode is not as powerful when alone, but when combined with Shadowlord Mode it is nearly undefeatable.
There aren’t many things Lucemon can’t do, especially with such a specific Digivolution line. He is immensely powerful and is among the strongest antagonists the DigiDestined have faced throughout the seasons. In that aspect, we put him in front of the other – even Daemon admitted Lucemon was stronger – but not in front of the Legendary Warriors, who have managed to defeat Lucemon and save the Digital World.
9. Ten Legendary Warriors
The original Ten Legendary Warriors (or Ten Ancient Warriors), were a group of ten Mega-level Ancient Digimon possessing ultimate strength that existed only in the distant past and represent the ten elemental attributes. The group fought to save the ancient Digital World from Lucemon, and in their past crusade against it, only AncientGreymon and AncientGarurumon survived to the end to seal the angel away. Each of them passed on their abilities to various Digimon Types, and their might to the thirty-two Variable-attribute Digimon who inherited their Spirits and title. The group consists of the following Digimon: AncientGreymon (Fire), AncientGarurumon (Light), AncientKazemon (Wind), AncientBeetlemon (Thunder), AncientWisemon (Steel), AncientSphinxmon (Darkness), AncientMegatheriummon (Ice), AncientMermaidmon (Water), AncientVolcanomon (Earth), and AncientTroiamon (Wood).
While they do not appear personally in Digimon Frontier (except for a brief flashback), the Ten Legendary Warriors played a crucial role in the history of the Digital World. They used their combined powers to defeat Lucemon and despite perishing (well, most of them), they transferred their powers to the modern Ten Legendary Warriors, who were once again able to defeat Lucemon by combining their powers. Individually, each of them is incredibly strong, but their combined powers – and they usually work like a group – make them a force to be reckoned with. We decided to include them as a group (the only group on this list) because they are all equally strong and their true power comes from them acting as a group, rather than as individuals. This is why it made sense to liste all of them here; the Royal Knights, the Dark Masters or some other groups wouldn’t have made sense because their members aren’t all equally strong.
Due to their role in the history and the mythos of the Digital World and their documented feats, the Legendary Warriors certainly deserve a spot on our list. Their combined powers were enough to defeat Lucemon but also their transferred powers were enough to defeat Lucemon again when Susanoomon finally put an end to his destruction.
|Mega||None (Data)||God Beast Digimon||Taikyoku|
Huanglongmon is a Mega-level God Beast Digimon that is tied to the Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon Tamers anime series, and has appeared in Digimon Xros Wars. Huanglongmon is the Digimon Sovereign that is enshrined in the Center, as an emperor Digimon who rules the world. Thanks to Lucemon, he was sealed underground in the deepest, darkest place; his mythology is thus tied to the events told in Digimon Frontier. This being is good but also evil, and is called the “Taiji” of light and darkness. His gigantic body is covered in scales of the special “Huanglong Ore” that boasts of absolute hardness, so inflicting even a single wound upon it is impossible. He is considered to be the ultimate being of creation in the Digital World, despite – as it turns out – not being the strongest Digimon in existence.
Huanglongmon is one of those Digimon whose powers are difficult to evaluate objectively. Namely, he was mentioned as a being even stronger than the Four Sovereigns (Azulongmon, Ebonwumon, Zhuqiaomon, and Baihumon) and a being of creation in the Digital World. Still, that Huanglongmon never appeared and all we saw of him was a gimmick “toy dragon” that Dorbickmon used for a DigiFusion in Xros Wars. That is not the “real” Huanglongmon. When talking about the “real” Huanglongmon, all we have to say is that his main attack, Taikyoku, “continuously disassembles everything in the Digital World, throughout eternity, into the two extremes of light and darkness, driving it into non-existence before long”. So, as you can see, Huanglongmon can disassemble the Digital World and reassemble it as it pleases him. Not many Digimon can actually do that. Lucemon, despite all of his powers, had to seal Huanglongmon away in order to begin his rule over the Digital World, which illustrates that even he was afraid of Huanglongmon’s power.
The god of creation in the Digital World certainly deserves a spot on our list. He is without a doubt more powerful than the Digimon that came before, either because he is responsible for their creation or because they were aware of his powers. Why he isn’t higher on the list is because he is not an actual fighter and would probably be defeated by Digimon that are both powerful and good fighters.
|Mega||Virus||Unknown||God of Death Snatcher|
MegaDarknessBagramon is a Composition Digimon that appears in Digimon Xros Wars; his Attribute varies and he is usually depicted as being a Mega-level Digimon. In reality, he is the digifused form of AxeKnightmon and Bagramon. By uniting the dark knight and the fiendish demon lord, he became the greatest emperor of evil and the strongest antagonist ever to have appeared in the anime. His “Imperium Vicious”, the evil power spilling out of its body, symbolizes that strength, and if a weak evil is bathed in it then it immediately becomes a grovelling subordinate. Even if you try to resist, it is considered difficult to maintain your sense of self if you are glared at by AxeKnightmon, who exists within its chest. According to one theory, his ultimate plan is to eradicate all good, in order to fill the world with evil and obtain a world that it can manipulate at will. Even though there are probably some Digimon whose strength is not outdone even by MegaDarknessBagramon itself, it is said that in order to designate its plan as something guaranteed, it expands its power by bringing useful Digimon under its control, and watches out for opportunities for the opposition. The darkness held within the hearts of humans and Digimon is intensified and fused with MegaDarknessBagramon’s own fathomless power.
MegaDarknessBagramon is a Digimon who was introduced as the absolute, strongest evil in the Digital World. You’ve seen some powerful antagonists on this list, but MegaDarknessBagramon is stronger and more evil than all of them, even if not in his Giant Form. MegaDarknessBagramon has the power to eradicate all that his good and even though only a few Digimon could defeat him in battle, he is still intelligent enough not to underestimate his opponents and is always careful in a battle. It took the combined power of all that is good in the Digital World to finally defeat MegaDarknessBagramon, which says enough about his immense powers.
This is the last “classical” antagonist on this list and thus the most powerful one. MegaDarknessBagramon deserved such a high position because of the evil he represents and because of the manner he was defeated, which is more than any other antagonist here demanded from the DigiDestined.
6. Imperialdramon Paladin Mode
|Mega||Vaccine||Ancient Dragon Man Digimon||Omni Sword|
Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is a Mega-level Ancient Dragon Man Digimon who is the final form of Imperialdramon and a form of Imperialdramon Fighter Mode that acquired the power of the Royal Knight Omnimon, powering up and changing form into a legendary holy knight. This Digimon debuted in the movie Digimon Adventure 02: Revenge of Diaboromon, where he fought and defeated Armageddemon. As the final, strongest form of Imperialdramon Dragon Mode that was told of since ancient times, he appeared in a time of great disruption in the ancient Digital World, and rescued the world from complete collapse. However, all of the details of that era are a mystery, and if research into Digimon and the Digital World progresses, it is likely that they will eventually be clarified. He is the famous wielder of the ultimate Omni Sword and the founder of the Royal Knights, although he himself is not a member of the group. It bears a combined symbol of the Crests of Courage and Friendship on the hilt of the Omni Sword.
When Omnimon initially fought Diaboromon, it managed to defeat him with relative ease. When Diaboromon Digivolved into Armageddemon, Omnimon didn’t stand a chance so he transferred his power over to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, who became the strongest Digimon in the franchise at the time. Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is ridiculously strong. Despite appearing just once in the anime, he has already gained a reputation of a fierce fighter. He is so powerful that even the legends of the ancient Digital World speak of him and he has proven his enormous power by defeating the powerful Armageddemon. Not only is he exceptionally strong – his Giga Crusher canon attack is ten times stronger than the regular Mega Crusher – he is also extremely fast and when he’s moving it seems like his movements are actually instantaneous. As if this weren’t enough, Imperialdramon Paladin Mode also wields the Omega Sword, which is imbued with the power of Omnimon. This weapon is so powerful that it cuts the opponent in two with a single stroke, resetting and clearing their configuration data. In layman’s terms, this Sword destroys an evil Digimon’s data, reconfigures it, resulting in the creation of a good, cleansed Digimon. Not many Digimon can actually do this and this makes Imperialdramon Paladin Mode so powerful.
A Digimon that is mentioned in legends is certainly deserving of a spot on our list and with all of his proven powers, he certainly deserves to be so high up on the list. The only issue with Imperialdramon Paladin Mode is that we have only seen him once and that out insight into his true powers is very limited, so we can only ponder the possibilities, while the powers of the Digimon that follow are better known.
5. Jesmon GX
|Mega||Data||Holy Knight Digimon||Seiken Meppa|
Jesmon GX is a Mega level- Holy Knight Digimon and a carrier of the X-Antibody. It is the final form of Jesmon that awakened its true power by enduring strict training from Gankoomon and fully mastering it. Its appearance, overflowing with fighting spirit and a sense of justice throughout its body, is covered in the red colour of burning flames. The “Unlimitive Gauntlet”, which has become its main weapon, is a piece of equipment used for both offence and defence that switches between Sword, Knuckle, and Shield Modes depending on the situation. By Digivolving further, the Tactical Arms has turned into a wing-shaped energy construct, and its flight capability has also increased drastically. Due to his immense power, Jesmon GX is considered to be a tier 1 Royal Knight, meaning that it is one of the strongest among the group.
Okay, sure, Jesmon GX technically didn’t appear in the anime, but he is directly tied to Jesmon, who made his debut in Digimon Adventure tri. Jesmon’s basic form was exceptionally powerful – he was a match for both Alphamon and Omnimon, who are considered to be the strongest among the Royal Knight. Jesmon’s power lies not only in his strength, but also his immense speed. His X-Antibody form – Jesmon X – is even stronger, just like other X-Digimon and it is this form that actually distinguishes him from Imperialdramon Paladin Mode, as we know for sure that the X-Antibody significantly increases a Digimon’s basic stats. But, Jesmon managed to become even stronger, reaching his GX form after mastering Gankoomon’s (Gankoomon was his master ever since he was a Hackmon) difficult training and becoming one of the strongest fighters in the Digital World. In this form, he has very few limits and there are not many Digimon who could actually defeat him.
The only thing about Jesmon is his position relative to Alphamon and Omnimon, but since these two are usually considered to be the most powerful Royal Knights, Jesmon had to be positioned here.
|Mega||Vaccine||Holy Knight Digimon||Divine Sword Grade Alpha|
Alphamon is a Mega-level Holy Knight Digimon and a natural carrier of the X-Antibody. While he is one of the leaders of the Royal Knights, it is said that, to the Royal Knights, he is a being similar to a deterrent force, and as he doesn’t appear in normal times, he is also called the “Aloof Hermit” who flutters a blue mantle, and is the Royal Knight assigned to the place called the “Empty Seat”. Because he possesses the “Alpha inForce” ability, an ultimate force which, in battle, instantaneously replays the elapsed battle, although Alphamon’s attacks are over in just an instant, you can’t grasp how many attacks he actually unleashed, and in theory, you can only see the final blow that brought down his opponents. He can likewise deploy a magic circle of DigiCode from its hands to perform offence and defence. He wields the Divine Sword Grade Alpha, which is based on Grademon’s Souken Gradalpha. If he merges with the legendary Dragon Digimon, Ouryumon, he becomes Alphamon Ouryuken, who is even more powerful than Alphamon’s basic form.
Alphamon’s position with the Royal Knights is, as was explained, very complicated. He is a member of the group, one of its leaders in fact, and a tier 1 Royal Knight whose power parallels that of Omnimon. He is also a natural carrier of the X-Antibody, which makes him more powerful than almost all of the Royal Knights. Still, Alphamon doesn’t appear all the time and he seems to have a very personal brand of justice and not the noble sentiment the other Royal Knights share. This was shown in Digimon Adventure tri., where Alphamon – while trying to fulfil his protective duty – fought anyone who stood in his way, not caring whether they were actual foes or not. He managed to fight both Omnimon and Jesmon simultaneously, which speaks for itself; Alphamon managed to survive a fight with the two strongest Royal Knights beside himself. All the other Digimon never stood a chance against Alphamon and his powerful blade. His fusion with Ouryumon, which never happened in the anime, is a very interesting theoretical fusion that would make Alphamon one of the strongest Digimon ever.
We decided to put Alphamon in front of Jesmon because he is one of the leaders of the Royal Knights and because even the other Royal Knights fear Alphamon in a certain way. Still, despite being enormously powerful, he doesn’t have much room for improvement as Omnimon does, which is why we think that he is not the strongest Royal Knight, but rather second only to Omnimon.
3. Omnimon X
|Mega||Vaccine||Holy Knight Digimon||All Delete|
Omnimon X is a Mega-level Holy Knight Digimon and a carrier of the X-Antibody. He is one of the leaders of the Royal Knights. Due to the X-Antibody, theoretically, other Digimon are unable to defeat Omnimon X, but this has never been proven. This is because he acquired the “Omega inForce”, an ultimate force which, in battle, is able to instantaneously read ahead and respond accordingly. It is an ability that draws out and raises Omnimon’s combat sense and potential, under any circumstances, to their utmost limits. Also, he never loses as far as Network Security is concerned. Omnimon X is an enhanced version of Omnimon whose armour has become sharper and more elaborate. The Crest of Courage on the Brave Shield Omega and the combined symbol of the Crests of Courage and Friendship on his chest have been replaced by As’ma Green. He also has As’ma Green on his knees and on his Grey Sword, a very powerful weapon. His WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon heads have been replaced by WarGreymon X and MetalGarurumon X heads respectively.
With Alphamon being away, Omnimon is usually perceived as the leader of the Royal Knights. This Digimon has proven, on more than enough occasions, that he is enormously powerful and was able to defeat some of the strongest evil Digimon, such as Diaboromon, Arkadimon and Ordinemon. In addition to that, he has enormous growth potential, having several different forms beyond his basic Mega-level form. One of these forms, Omnimon X, is certainly the strongest Royal Knight and arguably the third strongest Digimon ever. It is theorised that Omnimon X is undefeatable, which should be enough for anyone doubting our decision. In addition to that, he has perfect foresight – he can see several seconds into the future – which makes him virtually untouchable; you just can’t hit this guy, because he always knows what you are going to do and can defend against it. Also, his Grey Sword is the strongest blade in the Digital World, as it doesn’t just cut and purify what it touches, it completely erases it, meaning that Omnimon X has creation-level powers that match those of a Digital god, such as Huanglongmon.
When Omnimon X is concerned, you might try to find a weakness for him but it’s very difficult to do so. He is a skilled fighter, he has enormous powers and is thought to be undefeatable, even untouchable! This is what puts him above the rest of the Royal Knights and this is why he is so high up on our list.
2. Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode
|None (Mega)||None||Composition Digimon||Final Xros Blade|
Double Flare Buster
Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode is a Composition Digimon that appeared in the Digimon Xros Wars series. He is the final DigiXros form of Shoutmon and is considered to be the most powerful good Digimon ever created. Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode appears to be an amalgamation of Shoutmon and almost every other Digimon in the entire Digital World, save for the evil Digimon, which are not part of his code. He has 6 golden wings on both of its sides and his entire body has been coated in pure gold. His body has become so large that there’s not enough space left within his body, so the remaining Digimon orbit around it in the form of two energy rings. He appears as the ultimate saviour of both the Digital and the Real Worlds.
Shoutmon may not seem like much and people don’t usually hold a very high opinion of the whole Xros Wars series, but Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode is undeniably the strongest good Digimon ever. Why? Well, simply because he is every good Digimon ever. Xros Wars unique tackle on Digivolution enabled the creation of a sentient Digimon that is composed of all the good Digimon ever, thus combining all of their powers into one ultimate being. He might not have the omnipotence or the creation-level powers of some other Digimon, but Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode could easily defeat all of them before they could even use their powers. In the manga, he has defeated UltimateKhaosmon (an amalgamation of some of the most dangerous evil Digimon in the entire Digimon World), but the list also includes MegaDarknessBagramon and Huanglongmon, the creator of the Digital World as we know it.
The list of Digimon included in this DigiXros includes, but is not limited to Ballistamon, Dorulumon, ZekeGreymon, Bombmon, Kamemon, Jijimon, Olegmon, Apollomon, Grademon, PawnChessmon (White), Dondokomon, PaunGaossmon, Beelzemon, Hi-VisionMonitamon, Golemon, Mervamon, Lillymon, Dracomon, Sparrowmon, Knightmon, Beastmon, Darkdramon, Leviamon, MetalGarurumon, MagnaAngemon, Patamon, Gatomon, Impmon, Veemon, Examon, Garurumon, Omnimon, Agumon, WarGreymon, MarineAngemon, Guilmon, Searchmon, Guardromon, Gotsumon, IceDevimon, Lopmon, Pumpkinmon, Mantaraymon, Palmon, Floramon, Gabumon, Pururumon, Bucchiemon, Kokatorimon, Pagumon, Thundermon, YukimiBotamon, Otamamon, Tanemon, Pandamon, Clockmon, Jyarimon, Bukamon, Kyupimon, Terriermon, Betamon, Biyomon, Lynxmon, Mojyamon, Viximon, Kabuterimon, Stingmon, Lilamon, Shakkoumon, Bearmon, Mekanorimon, Datamon, Puwamon, Kunemon, Tsunomon, Monodramon, Prairiemon, Upamon, Mushroomon, Seahomon, Doggymon, Gryphonmon, Deramon, Mokumon, Trailmon (Kettle), Ignitemon, Puppetmon, Leomon, Kongoumon, Lunamon, Spadamon, Puttimon, Mercurymon, ToyAgumon, Grizzlymon, LadyDevimon, Garbagemon, Honeybeemon, Pichimon, Kotemon, Coronamon, Chuumon, Sunflowmon, Whamon, Syakomon, Mermaimon, SkullMeramon, Salamandermon, Matadormon, Marsmon, Ponchomon, WaruMonzaemon, Shurimon, Woodmon, Archelomon, Pegasusmon, Etemon, Mammothmon, Growlmon, Monzaemon, Stingmon, Gotsumon, Halsemon, Pumpkinmon, Jijimon, Harpymon, Candlemon, Spadamon, Lunamon, Frigimon, Lilamon, and many others.
We have intentionally given you a full list of known Digimon that form Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode, so that you can get a glimpse into his enormous powers, but also so that you know that is is only a small fragment of the powers he has. There is nothing we’d like to add to the equation.
|Mega||Virus||Evil God Digimon||Time Destroyer|
ZeedMillenniummon is a Mega-level Evil God Digimon that appeared as a foe in the Digimon Adventure and Digimon Xros Wars tie-in materials. He is the final form of Moon=Millenniummon. Flying freely between space and time, he is an entity of evil that is still trying to destroy all eras and worlds, the destruction being his only real goal. Although a Digimon will become a Digi-Egg if defeated in battle, there are very rare occasions when it has instead been reborn from within the corpse of its data. According to one theory, when Millenniummon died in a furious battle, the dark soul he possessed was reborn as ZeedMillenniummon, the ultimate evil of the Digital World. Also, as for the bands which wrap around ZeedMillenniummon, it is said that they are like chains which suppress his abilities, but it is unknown who could cast such a spell on ZeedMillenniummon since there is no known Digimon stronger than him. However, it is foretold that if it is released from this spell, it will rain unfathomable destruction upon the Digital World and every known reality.
Interestingly enough, the strongest Digimon ever is both an evil Digimon and a Digimon that has yet to appear in any anime, despite having a pivotal role in the mythologies of two anime series – Digimon Adventure and Digimon Xros Wars. ZeedMillenniummon can best be described as an abomination. It is a digital monstrosity that only came to life because his soul did not die, but was reborn as a Digimon in the most unnatural way. That way, it’s quite clear why his nature is so destructive and why such a monster would want to destroy everything. We assume that the level of hatred ZeedMillenniummon has is far beyond that of any other Digimon, including the likes of Apocalymon and MaloMyotismon, but ZeedMillenniummon’s hatred seems to be directed towards life and existence themselves. This is why ZeedMillenniummon’s goal is to destroy everything. The power this Digimon has is unfathomable, really… there is no exact way to express what he can do, especially since he is no god. He can destroy reality and each of his attacks ends in the complete obliteration of his opponents. Luckily enough, he is bound by the magical bands which restrict his powers, but it is said that if the bounds were to break that ZeedMillenniummon’s full power would be unleashed and that everything would just end. Yes, this guy is so powerful that his mere unbound existence would bring total destruction upon the world; he doesn’t have to do anything, just exist and he would destroy absolutely everything. No other Digimon possesses that kind of power and this is why ZeedMillenniummon is the strongest Digimon to ever.
Although he cannot be hurt by any type of attack – he’s even immune to the Omni Sword and the Grey Sword – ZeedMillenniummon can be defeated and has been defeated. The Legendary Tamer Ryo managed to defeat him because his own presence weakens ZeedMillenniummon, but a more applicable way is the one shown in the Xros Wars manga, when the DigiDestined entered his body and rewrote his code. Yes, the only way to actually defeat ZeedMillenniummon is not to attack him, but to completely alter his source code, thereby changing his whole existence.
And this concludes our list. We have introduced you to the 20 most powerful Digimon in the anime series and the tie-in materials, excluding those powerful beings that appeared in non-anime related manga and video games. We did that to make the list more transparent and comparable and we hope you have found it informative and entertaining.
And that’s it for today. We hope you had fun reading this and that we helped solve this dilemma for you. See you next time and don’t forget to follow us!
