Horror fans will know that Hellraiser is one of the most recognizable genre franchises in history. The original movie premiered in 1987, and since then, a total of eleven movies have been made, and it seems that a 12th one is on its way. In 2022, Hulu rebooted the Hellraiser franchise with a movie that became a critical and commercial success. Building on these positive waves, the producers expressed their desire to make a sequel, but it wasn’t until March 2024 that we received confirmation that a sequel is, indeed, in the works.
Hellraiser producer Keith Levine sat down for a talk with ComicBook.com’s Jamie Jiark, and he revealed more information about the highly-anticipated sequel that brought something new to the franchise but was also praised for remaining true to the original story. Of course, the interview was focused on his upcoming film, The First Omen, but Hellraiser was – of course – also mentioned.
Levine couldn’t, naturally, reveal too many details, as the movie has not been officially announced, but he gave us a pretty good insight into the current status of the project, as well as what we can expect from the movie when it finally comes out, which is, hopefully, going to be soon. Here is what he said:
“Yeah. We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design, figuring out how we’re going to pull them off, and we learned so much.
And I think moving forward, we love that all that knowledge is sort of banked and that time has been spent. So we think that moving forward and going into another movie is just going to be even crazier and even more awesome. So yeah, that’s something we’re definitely hard at work on, and hope we will have more news soon.”

As you can see, Levine has been secretive about the sequel as a whole, but it is slowly moving forward, and we hope – as he said – that we will get more news soon. What makes us especially happy is the fact that there is already a great story developing there and that the sequel might push the boundaries of the franchise even further, which is absolutely amazing.
And that is all that we have for you at this moment. We will provide you with more updates as soon as they come, so be sure to keep following us for the latest news.
