IO Interactive has ended its partnership with MMA fighter Conor McGregor following a recent court decision. The Irish High Court found McGregor guilty of assaulting and raping a woman in December 2018. As a result, IO Interactive announced they would ‘cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately.’

McGregor’s character, ‘The Disruptor,’ appeared in Hitman as an Elusive Target. This mission, reintroduced earlier this month, was scheduled to be available until December 8.

Additionally, a Disruptor DLC pack offered permanent access to ‘The Ostentatious’ arcade contract, featuring McGregor’s character, along with new outfits, items, and cosmetics for the freelancer house.

IO Interactive stated they would ‘begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today.’ This move reflects the company’s stance on the serious nature of the court’s findings.

McGregor has expressed his intention to appeal the verdict. The court ordered him to pay at least €248,000 in damages to the victim.

This development underscores the impact of legal outcomes on professional collaborations, especially in the gaming industry. IO Interactive’s decision to dissociate from McGregor highlights the importance of aligning company values with public actions.
