George R. R. Martin is the author of the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, upon which the hit HBO series Game of Thrones is based. Due to the huge success of the series, HBO is continuing to explore the franchise and is currently working on a prequel titled House of the Dragon. The series is based on Martin’s 2018 spinoff novel Fire & Blood, which offered fans an insight into the history of House Targaryen.
The first season will consist of 10 episodes and it will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The show will follow the decline of the Targaryen empire, with the focus on an infamous event in Westeros history known as the Dance of the Dragons – a civil war that took place between siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra over the throne after the death of their father Viserys I.
On his official website, George R. R. Martin shared an update on the series and has revealed that it has wrapped filming and is now in post-production. He added that he loved what he has seen for now and is looking forward to seeing more.
“So far, I am very excited. HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has wrapped in London and is now in post-production. What I have seen, I have loved. I am eager to see more“.
The main cast of Hosue of the Dragon consists of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and Lady Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke).
Although HBO has not confirmed the show’s release date yet, House of the Dragon is expected to air sometime in 2022.
