'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Is Coming Out Soon and the Critics Are Already Loving It!

HBO’s House of the Dragon, a spin-off series related to Game of Thrones, was welcomed by both fans and critics, becoming yet another hit series for the streaming service. The first season aired in 2022 and consisted of 10 episodes, and we know that the second season of the beloved show is premiering on June 16, 2024, and the fans cannot see the date arrive soon enough. Some critics have already had the pleasure of seeing at least some of the scheduled episodes, and the first reactions are in. Based on what the initial reviews are claiming, we’re in for an amazing season!

As stated, the second season will officially air on Max on June 16, 2024, and will consist of eight episodes, continuing the story started in Season 1 of the show. Fans will be able to give their verdicts on Sunday, and until then, you can enjoy the early reactions that seem to give us a lot of hope!

Since the series has yet to come out, we only have the initial critics’ impressions of the show; the audience scores will be available on Sunday, as Rotten Tomatoes will open the possibility for fans to rate the show when it actually comes out to stop any potential review bombing. The second season is already Certified Fresh at 90%, with the critical consensus being: “Approaching its dynastic cataclysm with a deliberate stride rather than a charging gallop, House of the Dragon carefully sets up its emotional stakes to make the fiery spectacle all the more scorching.”

As you can see, the critics are loving it, and here are just some of their reactions for you to enjoy:

“While it takes a few episodes for House of the Dragon to crescendo into the sort of grand, violent spectacle that the series does better than pretty much anything else on TV, there are enough nuggets of incident… to satisfy viewers’ bloodlust.”

Louis Chilton, Independent

“Above all else, House Of The Dragon remains a spiky, acidic human drama; an astute, timely and well-performed study of the way power and wisdom are so often mutually exclusive.”

Dan Jolin, Empire

“Summer is coming, and for those eager for an alternative to sunburn, football and queues at the airport, House of the Dragon has all you could require for a roaring good time.”

Ed Power, Daily Telegraph

“Calling something as tragically rendered as this season of House of the Dragon isn’t fun — but it is utterly compelling and expertly crafted television.”

William Goodman, The Wrap

“After a somewhat rocky takeoff, House of the Dragon has seemingly reached its cruising altitude, while continuing to take big creative swings.”

Brian Lowry, CNN
