How to Speed up Fortnite Download

Fortnite’s massive success has swept the globe, with many well-known footballers admitting to being die-hard fans of the game.

To speed up Fortnite download requires you to ensure that you have the best internet connection possible while you unleash the full capabilities of your device through certain technical processes.

Fortnite slow download could be due to slow internet connection, the large size of updates amidst other factors. No one would be happy to be the only one in a squad who is still busy downloading the game for hours while others are already in the game and enjoying the contents. Do you want to be in the league of current users of Fortnite without any hitch? I guess the response is affirmative. Then, keep on reading till you fully understand the reasons behind the problem you were facing (slow download) and how to overcome these problems on your different gadgets.

Why is Fortnite download slow?

Fortnite currently has a combined user base of over 350 million people since it is available on a range of devices, including smartphones and tablets. However, the most popular criticism from users is that it takes a long time to download. Slow Fortnite downloads may be attributed to a variety of factors, including slow internet connections. When you download a game like Fortnite, the game servers send files to your computer (or other devices). This data is transmitted in packets, which are tiny data bundles. Unfortunately, packets are often lost along the way, slowing down your download. In extreme cases of packet loss, the download can come to a halt or crash. Another impeding factor is the enormous size of Fortnite.

What is the size of Fortnite?

Due to a recent Epic Games development, the Fortnite PC size has shrunk from 90 GB to under 30 GB. On the 21st of October, 2020,  Epic Games took to Twitter to announce the release of version 14.40. “Please notice the patch size will be larger than average on PC,” Fortnite Status said on Twitter (approx. 27 GB). This is to make PC optimizations that result in a dramatically reduced Fortnite file size (over 60 GB smaller), smaller patch downloads, and better loading performance. According to the tweet, version 14.40 is larger than previous updates because optimizations made to the game would substantially reduce the total file size on PC, according to the developers.

Fortnite’s PC version started at about 18 GB in size. As new content was added regularly, the game grew to 90GB in size. The most recent update aims to reduce it by 60 GB, as well as ensuring that future updates will not take up as much room.

Fortnite Battle Royale is roughly 16.8GB download on the Xbox and a relatively modest 7.5GB on the PS4. Fortnite Android users will have to download between 1.56GB to 2.98GB while iOS users will download between 1.14GB and 1.76GB

How to make Fortnite download faster

How to Speed up Fortnite Download

If you play on a PC, you can note that the download speed is slow and that it sometimes hangs in the middle. You’re not alone, so don’t worry. Fortunately, there are a few ways to speed up the download. These techniques have helped many gamers in resolving their issues. You don’t have to try all of them; simply work your way down the list before you find one that fits you.

  1. Restart your WiFi router

Restarting your WiFi router and even your computer is always a good idea because many technical issues can be solved by doing so. Often, this is sufficient to resolve the download speed problem. By restarting your computer, it will create a new link, which can result in a stronger and more reliable Internet connection. Also, the firmware on your router plays an important role in the download process. So, before you restart your WiFi router, remember to update your modem and router firmware. You might not be keeping up with the ISP’s upgrades if you don’t have the new ones. Then retry the download to see if it works.

  1. Use a virtual private network (VPN)

Your ISP has a lot to do with your download speed. If you’re tired of slow download speeds but don’t want to change your ISP service plan, you can increase your download speed by using VPN. A strong VPN (Virtual Private Network) will help you bypass your ISP and prevent speed drops and restrictions. It can also safeguard your privacy.

  1. Disable bandwidth-intensive programs

Switch off any bandwidth-hogging programs on your device when you’re installing, such as webpages that are loading, videos that are playing, or applications that need WiFi speed. As a result, you can avoid any other software or utilities from hogging your Internet connection, allowing you to download faster.

Furthermore, if your computer is upgrading software or services in the background, you will experience sluggish download speeds, so it is recommended that you set your computer to alert you before installing any updates.

  1. Update your network driver

The download speed problem can also be caused by a missing or outdated network driver. Check to see if your network driver is up to date. You can update your driver in one of two ways: manually or automatically.

  1. Manually: To update your drivers this way, you’ll need some technical skills and patience, as you’ll need to find the exact right driver online, download it, and install it step by step
  2. Automatically (Recommended) – This is the most convenient and time-saving option. It’s all done with a few mouse clicks, so even if you’re a tech newbie, it’s easy.
  3.  Change your computer’s DNS server

Domain names allow us to access information on the internet. Web browsers, on the other hand, use IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to access Internet services. The Domain Name System (DNS) is a program that converts domain names to IP addresses so that your browser can access Internet resources. Google Public DNS boosts your speed while also increasing your protection. To see if this problem can be fixed, try updating your PC’s DNS server to the Google Public DNS addresses.

On Mobile

1. Close all available games and apps

Since bandwidth is prioritized to already open apps when games and apps are open, all apps and games must be closed to maximize download speeds.

  1. 2. Avoid peak periods

Do not download Fortnite at peak hours – due to the large number of people downloading updates at the same time.

  1. 3. Change your DNS settings

Adjusting your DNS settings will speed up your downloads. To do so, go to settings [network tab] [network settings] [advanced settings] [ DNS Settings] [manual], and then fill in the following information: : Primary DNS:, Secondary DNS:

On PS4

Pause and resume download- This may seem strange, but pausing and restarting your download may result in faster download speeds.

Change your DNS settings – Several players have confirmed that changing their DNS settings to Google’s public DNS has benefited them. Go to your network settings, choices, and “Set up your internet connection” to do so. When prompted about your DNS, select manual and enter the following information: Primary DNS:, Secondary DNS:

Rest  Mode – Putting the console in rest mode seems to work for a lot of people. To do so, go to Power Saving Settings [set functions accessible in rest mode], then to Device [automatic downloads and updates], and switch on auto-downloads. After that, go into rest mode and come back later to see if the download has finished.

How to upgrade faster on Fortnite

By playing the game, Fortnite players gain XP. Every match, elimination, new map discovery, and even outlasting other players earn you valuable XP against your Battle Pass tiers. This basic method requires a lot of grinding, a lot of time, and can detract from the game’s enjoyment. Here are some pointers to help you gain more XP and upgrade faster.

Complete Weekly Challenges

Weekly challenges are the single most effective way to gain a large amount of XP with little effort. Players win 20,000 XP for completing each challenge. The majority, if not all, are simple to complete. The challenges can be as easy as landing in a specific position or as difficult as doing a certain amount of damage with a specific weapon. They also require players to locate specific objects or communicate with a specific point on a website.

Loot chests, ammo boxes, and more

Chests aren’t just for storing loot. Each chest also grants 130 XP to the player. A player can earn over 3,900 XP by finding all 30+ chests in a location like Dirty Docks. Other searchable items earn XP:

Produce box: 65 XP

Fishing pole barrels: 65 XP

Ammo box: 100 XP

Supply drop: 135 XP

These amounts can seem insignificant at first glance, but they add up quickly during a Fortnite match. Any XP gained quickly by a player will inevitably compound.

Forage everything

Foraging in Fortnite earns players 25 XP per item foraged, whether it’s mushrooms, apples, or cabbages. Again, this does not seem to be a significant amount, but on farms, it is. Simply clearing a field will earn a player thousands of XP in a short amount of time. This method allows players to essentially farm XP. No matter how insignificant it might seem, a player should never ignore a source of easy XP. This allows players to level up much quicker than simply playing matches, and it also adds a layer of enjoyment to the game by giving them additional measurable goals to achieve.
