Industry Insider Reveals Rumored Plot Details for Upcoming ‘Nova’ Series
As you probably know, Marvel Studios is developing a new series centered on Nova, a cosmic superhero from the Marvel universe. This show is described as an ‘amazing ensemble piece with a great cast of characters,’ suggesting it will feature multiple members of the Nova Corps.
The series is expected to include both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander, two prominent characters who have taken up the Nova mantle in the comics, but also other Novas, as popular industry insider Daniel Richtman reports.
Richard Rider, a New York high school student, was randomly chosen to become a member of the Nova Corps until the Annihilation Wave destroyed them all, leaving him imbued with their combined power. Sam Alexander, on the other hand, is a younger Nova introduced in more recent comic storylines.
In terms of inspiration, the show’s creators are looking to iconic spacefaring franchises. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, mentioned that the series will have ‘shades of’ both Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. This indicates a blend of exploration and military sci-fi elements, potentially offering a fresh take on Marvel’s cosmic adventures.
A significant aspect of the series is its antagonist. Richtman suggests on his Patreon that Annihilus, a formidable villain from the Negative Zone, will serve as the primary adversary. Annihilus is known for leading the Annihilation Wave, a catastrophic event that decimated the Nova Corps in the comics. His inclusion hints at high-stakes conflicts and deep ties to Nova’s comic book lore.
The decision to incorporate both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander allows the series to appeal to fans of different generations.
While the series is still in development, the combination of a diverse ensemble cast, inspiration from renowned sci-fi franchises, and the inclusion of a formidable villain like Annihilus positions it as a highly anticipated addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
