Ojiro Makoto’s slice of life manga Insomniacs After School will be adapted into a TV anime and live-action movie. Further details about the production details on the said works will be released in the coming months. The news was announced on the Official Twitter account of the Bunkyodo bookstore.
The manga series currently has eight volumes in circulation and was written and illustrated by Ojiro Makoto. Other of Makoto’s known published works are Neko no Otera no Chion-san, 8 Tales of the ZQN, and Zoo Factory.
Since 2019, Weekly Big Comic Spirits Magazine has serialized Insomniacs After School under the seinen category.
Makoto’s Insomniacs After School is a coming-of-age story about two insomniac high school students, Ganta Nakami and Isaki Magari. The story takes place in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The unlikely pair stumble across each other in their school’s abandoned observatory. After finding out that they share the same problem- insomnia- the students feel a strange connection to each other. The romance is a slow-burn that focuses on the protagonists’ maneuvring school life with their insomnia.
Last October, a one-minute special animation PV was uploaded on Big Comics YouTube Channel to commemorate the release of the 7th installation in the series.
You can watch the clip below:
The short PV does not have any narration and only shows scenes of the adolescent protagonists living their youth.
