Anakin 2

It isn’t a secret that the Star Wars shows that we have seen on Disney+ aren’t shy about bringing in old and new characters alike. In that regard, we saw the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in their old roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker during the events of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Then again, we know that Lucasfilm isn’t shy about putting all of its marbles on The Mandalorian, which is the most successful Star Wars series, and the trailer of season 3 seems to indicate the return of a familiar face. So, is Anakin Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 3?

Anakin Skywalker might appear in season 3 of The Mandalorian, but it might happen in a flashback scene involving Order 66. That’s because The Mandalorian takes place years after the fall of the Empire. That means that Anakin is already dead during the events of The Mandalorian.

Of course, true Star Wars fans would know that Anakin would never come back due to the fact that he died back when he sacrificed himself to defeat the Empire in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. As such, if he would ever return in season 3 of The Mandalorian, it would be in a flashback scene during the events of Order 66.

Is Anakin Skywalker In The Mandalorian Season 3?

The trailer for season 3 of The Mandalorian is now out, and fans are now starting to speculate what could happen in the third season of the most successful Star Wars series on Disney+. In that regard, it wasn’t hard to miss one iconic scene involving a few Jedi Knights that had their backs turned against the camera while they were on their way to face an incoming threat. This scene had fans speculating about the possibility of Anakin Skywalker returning. So, is Anakin in The Mandalorian season 3?

Lucasfilm hasn’t been shy about bringing back old Star Wars characters in their Disney+ shows. We had seen this several times in The Mandalorian when the likes of Ahsoka, Boba Fett, and Luke Skywalker made appearances. Of course, we also saw the return of Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series as the actors of the characters reprised their roles to bring in the nostalgia train from fans of the prequel trilogy.

In that regard, it shouldn’t be too far off to think that Anakin Skywalker would make an appearance in The Mandalorian season 3, as we all know that Lucasfilm isn’t shy about spending money to bring in characters that could attract more fans to watch the Star Wars shows on Disney+. And there is even a good possibility that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Anakin.

Of course, The Mandalorian is no doubt the most successful Disney+ Star Wars series, as it has a lot of fans all over the world. As such, it wouldn’t be too far off for Lucasfilm to spend money to bring back Anakin to the series. And the possibility of Anakin making an appearance in The Mandalorian season 3 might be something that fans are excited about, especially after there were a lot of fans that jumped on the nostalgia bandwagon when Hayden appeared as Anakin in a flashback scene in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

What Will Anakin’s Role Be In The Mandalorian Season 3?

While there is a possibility that Anakin Skywalker will be making an appearance in The Mandalorian season 3, let’s not forget that he is already dead. The Mandalorian takes place at least five years after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. In that movie, Darth Vader died as Anakin Skywalker after he sacrificed himself to kill Emperor Palpatine so that he could save his son from getting killed by the Sith Lord. And at the end of the movie, we saw Anakin’s Force Ghost reuniting with the Force Ghosts of Yoda and Obi-Wan.

That means that it is unlikely that we will see Anakin alive and well in the present timeline of The Mandalorian if he is going to appear in season 3. And this leads to the possibility that we might see Anakin in a flashback scene involving his days as a Jedi Knight before the fall of the Jedi Order in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Back in The Book of Boba Fett, we saw Luke Skywalker allowing Grogu to remember his past using the power of the Force. As such, Grogu was taken back to the time when he was still a Youngling in the Jedi Temple as Jedi Knights were defending him from clone troopers that were there to kill the Jedi and the Younglings that were still in the temple in Coruscant.

Then, in the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi, we also saw that some of the Younglings, including Reva, witnessed how Anakin Skywalker mercilessly slaughtered Jedi Knights and Younglings alike during the events of Order 66. In fact, Reva became an Inquisitor so that she could get as close as possible to Darth Vader to avenge the deaths of her fellow Younglings in the Jedi Temple in Coruscant.

Of course, we know from the events of Revenge of the Sith that Anakin was indeed in the Jedi Temple during Order 66. Then, according to Grogu’s flashback, there were Jedi Knights that protected him from the clones that came for him and the other Younglings.

Considering that a squad of clones probably isn’t strong enough to defeat at least four Jedi Knights without using the element of surprise, it is possible that there was someone stronger than regular Jedi Knights that appeared right then and there to defeat the Jedi defending Grogu. And that person could be Anakin Skywalker.

At this point, we still don’t know what happened to Grogu back in the Jedi Temple because his memory is still fuzzy. As such, we don’t know how he escaped the temple in Coruscant or who saved him. So, if Anakin was indeed present in that flashback scene, he could have been involved in the events that eventually allowed Grogu to escape the temple.

As such, if Anakin is set to make an appearance in The Mandalorian season 3, it would be nothing more than a cameo of him appearing in Grogu’s memories back when he was still in the Jedi Temple during the events of Order 66. And it isn’t too far off for Lucasfilm to try to bring Hayden Christensen back for that scene, considering that Disney probably isn’t shy about spending money on The Mandalorian.
