The release of The Book of Boba Fett sparked a lot of different rumors surrounding the different organizations that can be seen throughout the galaxy. While Boba Fett is now looking to establish himself as a leader in the organized crime scene in Tatooine, there is a likely chance that he will run into an organization called the Crimson Dawn, which used to be headed by the former Sith Lord Darth Maul. So, is Crimson Dawn in The Book of Boba Fett?
As of now, there are no certainties regarding whether or not Crimson Dawn will be in The Book of Boba Fett because nothing is yet to be confirmed. However, there are some theories that connect Boba Fett’s potential rival, the Mayor, to the Crimson Dawn and its leader Qi’ra.
The thing you need to know about the entire Star Wars universe is that there are more characters and organizations involved in the grander scheme of things. As such, even if the focus is on the Jedi, Sith, Empire/First Order, and Rebels/Resistance, there are other groups working behind the scenes. And shows like The Book of Boba Fett are the perfect avenue to expand on the different groups like the Crimson Dawn, potentially.
Who Are The Crimson Dawn?
Those who have been following the entire Star Wars universe and have been watching the spin-off series, such as the Clone Wars and Rebels series, would be familiar with the organization called Crimson Dawn.
To recap quickly, in Clone Wars, it was revealed that the former Sith Lord named Darth Maul survived the ordeal of getting sliced in half at the torso in his battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. With the help of his brother Savage Opress, Darth Maul was able to take control over Mandalore for a time. Of course, he also had help in the form of the Crimson Dawn, a group comprised of mercenaries that grew in power.
The Crimson Dawn became an organized crime group that rose into power following the events surrounding the siege of Mandalore and the failure of Darth Maul to keep Mandalore under his rule. Crimson Dawn rose up after Order 66, as Darth Maul ordered the group to remain in hiding to avoid clashing with the Empire during its rise. However, instead of ruling the group actively, Darth Maul gave the puppet leadership role to Dryden Vos until his death.
In the events that followed Solo: A Star Wars Story, Qi’ra ultimately became the leader when Darth Promoted her to the leadership position. Throughout that time, Crimson Dawn remained to be an organized crime group that worked in the shadows and avoided clashing with the Empire so that it could keep a low profile.
Is Crimson Dawn In The Book Of Boba Fett?
Now that you know more about the Crimson Dawn, how does it relate to The Book of Boba Fett? Is the Crimson Dawn going to be in the Boba Fett spin-off series?
Originally, the plan was for Crimson Dawn to take a more active role as the antagonists that Han Solo would continue to clash with following the events of the first Solo film. However, because there are no longer plans for a Solo sequel, Crimson Dawn was seemingly pushed aside.
Then again, there are some indications that point to the possibility of the Crimson Dawn becoming more involved with the events of The Book of Boba Fett. For one, we saw in episode 1 that Boba Fett was resistant to the demands of a man named the Mayor, who is also the mayor of Mos Espa on Tatooine. After that, we saw Boba surviving an assassination attempt at the hands of unknown assassins, who were probably hired by the Mayor.
Considering that The Book of Boba Fett had just released its first season, there is no confirmation regarding the Mayor’s identity. However, some theories point to the possibility that the Mayor is actually Qi’ra, who we all know as the leader of Crimson Dawn. As such, despite the fact that there is nothing set in stone, there is a good chance that Crimson Dawn will make an appearance as one of the crime groups that Boba’s own crime group will clash with.
Will Darth Maul Be Back?
As mentioned, Darth Maul was the one responsible for establishing Crimson Dawn and for allowing it to rise in power as one of the strongest crime groups in the galaxy. We also said that he used to work in the shadows as the group’s true leader while he gave the more active leadership role to his underlings.
However, Darth Maul is unlikely to return in The Book of Boba Fett because he is already dead. Those who watched the Star Wars: Rebels animated series were able to witness Maul’s death at the hands of his old rival, Obi-Wan. Maul’s Death happened somewhere before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Considering that The Book of Boba Fett takes place years after Return of the Jedi, it would be impossible for Darth Maul to make a return because he is already dead.
Will Qi’ra Be Back?
There may be rumors regarding Qi’ra and how big of a role she will be playing in The Book of Boba Fett as the possible rival to the legendary Bounty Hunter. However, unless we get the confirmation that Crimson Dawn will return to the Star Wars universe in this series, there is no indication that Qira will be returning, regardless of whatever role she may be playing.
Are They Setting The Crimson Dawn Return For The Future?
Despite the fact that there is no clear confirmation as to whether or not Crimson Dawn will return, there is a possibility that Disney is setting the future up for the group’s return as one of the major antagonists in the Star Wars spin-off stories.
Emilia Clarke, who played Qi’ra in the Solo film, says that she has some ideas regarding the character she plays and that Disney and Lucasfilm have been receptive to her ideas. However, she neither confirmed nor denied that either she or Crimson Dawn would be returning to the Star Wars canon in the near future.
Still, considering that there are more interesting stories outside of the usual light versus dark narrative that the main Star Wars films follow, there is a likely chance that a group such as Crimson Dawn will make a return as one of the major players of the spin-off stories in the large and vast Star Wars franchise.
